interview coming up, but I don't have SSN# card, is it absolutely necessary?

my interview is coming up very soon... :eek: N-400 files more than 16.5 months ago... (but this is the average wait time for my city)

but I have no idea where my SSN# card is. (but obivously I know my SSN#, which is also listed on my N-400 application)

all my other IDs/documents/passport are present and accounted for. :) although I'm still trying to brush up for the test,

Is it absolutely necessary that I bring the actual social security card to my interview? :confused:

I don't think so... my friends who have been adjudicated so far never asked for SSN card.. it must be those old bluish-green paper card ...
 
From previous postings, IOs are only asking for passport, green card and driver's license (or other state issued ID)
 
As everyone mentioned, you don't need it, but you do know you can get a replacement SSN card right. It only takes a few weeks to get it and doesn't cost anything.
 
Yes, I think you should get a replacement card for your own use. If it gets in time for the interview, good, if it doesn't don't worry too much. They ask for the card in rare occasions, and even then if you don't have it on you it shouldn't be a do or break thing. I mean, you should still get approved. Basically, chances are stacked well in your favor that the card won't be needed at the interview.
 
Wait to apply for the new card after becoming a citizen, so you can update SS with your citizenship status and request a replacement card in one visit.

I did find a photocopy of the card.

Come to think of it, I never got a new SSN card after getting my
greencard. The SSN card still had "Not Valid for Employment"
on the top.

Guess I should update it and get a replacement after becoming
a citizen... :)
