Interesting Naturalizations Stats

Absolutely, and especially in the light of the financial crisis, one would think the figures would actually decrease. But numbers can tell a different story:)

The 2008 increase was a direct result of people trying to beat the July 2007 fee increase and a push to get out voters for the 2008 presidential elections.

Or were the children of diplomats.

I heard U.S. citizens and U.S. national are two different concept though they are teh same for most. But there are people who are U.S. national but not U.S. citizens. They need to apply for citizenship too (in their case, maybe naturalization is not a correct term)

Good point. US nationals (and direct descendants) are not citizens, but may become citizens via naturalization process.

If non-citizens US. nationals apply for citizenship, do they also need
5 years residence period, Good moral characte test (I don't think deportability is an issue for them).

From the link it states they may apply for citizenship just as resident aliens do, which I assume means they must meet the same basic requirements. Interestingly, the link says US nationals are allowed to apply for a US passport with the designation "US national" in it.

It is pretty much not a big deal for them. They can apply for citizenship
but I doubt they have any anxiety in the process and they will not get
much excietment as others when they get it. It can look very weird
if they go to citizenship interview with a US passport as ID.

and if they are de-naturalized after citizenship due to some reasons,
they shoudl still be US nationals

Even more interesting when you compare the with 2008 data which saw almost twice as many naturalizations.

Bob, I suspect the 2008 figures were as a result of the rush just before the price increase back a few years.

I forget the actual figures but I was reading it somewhere on the USCIS site the other day that case load went from .9M to 2.1M over that period.
