Inner workings of the N-400 Process

Does anyone know what happens to the N-400 application once it is received by the USCIS? I always thought that the FBI name check was the biggest hurdle in the process, but when I called the FBI today (thanks to another person who posted their number), they told me that my name check was sent to the local office in 24 hrs. Now I'm wondering whether my file is just sitting there at the DO accumulating dust and maybe I should go there and beg them to do something about it. Or are there some other checks that need to be completed before they call me for the interview?

Thanks,

How long ago did you apply? They're not going to process your application right away just because your name check got done quickly. There is a line of people who applied before you.

The FBI doesn't give out the status of your name check. They only give out info on the status of your fingerprints. Most likely what the FBI told you is that your FP results were sent to the local office within 24 hours.
Your name check takes a little longer than FP. Once you get name check cleared you will be scheduled for interview.

Recently they have made some changes for Naturalization application processing. The attached file is self explaining.
