Info-Pass fiasco! Are they better off hiring monkeys?

Just wanted to share my experience with an Infopass appointment today at the USCIS office in New York.

I got an appointment via Infopass to talk with an IO about my residency application, waited for a little over an hour before my turn came up, when I talked to the IO he was not even aware about the 10,000 cap lift for asylee adjustment, I told him about the REAL ID Act, but he said nobody had told him about that, and asked me if I had documents to back up what I was saying.

After 10 minutes debating about the asylee adjustment process, he printed my case status off their website, the processing dates from Nebraska SC, and that old document that states that I will get a GC in like 18 years. He also stated that he didn’t have any information about my name check, fingerprints or for that matter any clue about the case.

Highly disappointed about Infopass. However, the IO was a nice guy...

Infopass appointments should be made to inquire about cases filed with District Offices(DO) ONLY. They can not tell you all details about your case since it is filed with one out of 4 service centers (which by the way were created to help out DOs with their case loads) and they share data with DOs and let DOs access your file only if they transfer your case to DO for interview. Until that happens District Office do not want to know about your case since they are processing only certain types of cases and if I can put it like that DO "does not have jurisdiction" over your case until is being transfered to DO.
If you have questions about your case , you have to call 1-800 #. If you think the # is worthless , then wait patiently until you hear from USCIS.
P.S. I like your idea of hiring monkeys. They would probably approve way less asylum application and would not let stay unthankful people like you in this great country. "Idiots" and whatever names people like you call government workers from USCIS approved your asylum, save you from persecution in your country, gave you a chance to live a life that is humanworthy, gave you all great benefits that this country offers and you have a nerv to say you would replace them with monkeys. That is sad , my friend very sad. Unfortunately you are not the only one who thinks like that .

You belong to a priviliged group and this is not your place to lecture to the people, whose lives have been indefinitely put on hold by the USCIS and who are barred from "all great benefits that this country offers". Check out the thread about travel documents, as an example.

Well said.... no matter what USCIS does constant complaining, calling names and beating up on CIS never stops on this board. God forbid you hear anybody complain about the governments that persecuted them ...actually CIS is the persecutor they dragged us here, gave us asylum, opportunity to work and have a life most of us did not even dream back to shitholes we came from and you know the worst thing: lifes are on hold cuz the travel doc is valid for one year only and can not get their GC fast enough to go home COP, come back and brag about the trip.

i agree 100% well said. I just dont agree with US embassies which give hard time to issue visitor viza for parents and relatives of asylee. :mad:thatswhy most of the asylees feel like their in "GOLDEN CAGE".there must be somekind of provision which would allow relatives at least visit asylee for a week. i know a lot of EU citizens . who come to this country every 3 month. they dont even go to US embassy to get a viza. In entry port they just need to prove if they know somebody in US:rolleyes:i know there is a threat from terrorist but honestly mexican border is wide open for anyone.and noone is gonna close it because whitegold is more important .

Antonio2,

I think you should take a chill pill, do not take me wrong on this I love the U.S. for the opportunity that gave of staying here in the U.S.

USCIS advertises Infopass as friendly systems that allows users to conveniently talk to a trained immigration officer in any subject about a case. I guess what really disappointed me was that the guy didn’t even know about the cap for asylees and gave me information that's over 6-7 months old. Wasn't this officer a knowledgeable and trained information person that deals with potentially hundreds of asylees and he is giving them the wrong information?

I think only a very small fraction of asylees in the U.S. are as informed about the process as the people who participate in this or other forums, so I do not excuse the fact that some guy doesn't how what he is supposed to know to do his job (provide information) based on gratefulness to the U.S., that to some extend is just kissing butt.

And yes, there are some people in USCIS that could be easily replaced with intelligent monkeys, but that just happens in every public or private institution.

Empanado,

Wow, a gold star for you for taking the high road and not lashing back at antonio2 (which is exactly what some other members of this forum would have done).
