Info for the interview

Hi, I'm looking for advice on things to take to the interview.

First, we're going to have a problem because we don't have a lease or pay utilities. I know this will cause troubles, but we got a good deal on the place and I don't want to shake that up to have a lease and utility bill to take to the interview. Everyone always says if the marriage is for real there's nothing to worry about, so I'm going to roll with it.

Given that, any ideas on what kinds of things we can take to show we live together? I don't suppose phone bills and library cards are the best options.

Joint everything...

Ask your landlord to write a letter attesting to you and spouse as his or her tenants, have the lettere notarized. In the letter, explain when you moved there and how many people live in your apt, if utilities are included, he or she can state that in the letter.

Joint: Bank statements, health, home,car and life insurance,car title, credit cards, library cards.. Photos of your guys vacationing or together, emails or communication between you guys, prior to your marriage, wedding pictures, notes and cards, celebrating each other's birthdays. Anything that shows joint ownership and living together will suffice.

Lastly, relax and do well at the interview. It will be nice if you and spouse look spiffy for your interview, USCIS officers are most likely to give weigh to your appearance as husband and wife, if you look cool, rather than look like a rugged dog....

car insurance? credit card statements with the same address? can you get a letter from your landlord that you live there together? health insurance cards if insurance is from the same place? any bills (doctor's, phone) with your names on them, sent to the same address.
receipts for furniture or similar items?

vacation photos? wedding stuff.

The wife's a fashion designer, so you know we have to be dressed nice all the time. Atleast we should be alright on that front.

Extra question. Both of you suggested car insurance, but she can't really operate a car here until she has legal status and gets a liscense. I didn't realize the insurance company would even let me put her on my insurance until then.

Fine, you can have either of those forms of evidence. If she can't operate a car since she is waiting to get her paperwork straight, fine. Remember, you need to show proof of your joint life, it is not necessary that you have a car insurance with her name on it, if she doesn't have a drivers license. Also, if you have kids, their pictures or anything that shows what this marriage produced...

Simple things such as library cards, gym membership will do work for you guys.
As I said, email communications prior to your getting married will be cool,note cards. Once she has her drivers license, after adding her to car insurance, you can send it to USCIS when you apply for removal of conditions on her greencard, because you will continuing to show your joint life together.

Thanks Southerner. That was a nice idea that I hadn't thought of.

I spent the last half hour printing out the first month's woth of emails we sent eachother. Thank you gmail for having the capacity to go back that far. While I know they won't read them all, it can't hurt to have them.

I also printed out over 200 pictures of us from here in Boston and vacations all over, including to visit my family in Iowa and hers in Mexico.

Maybe you can use any mail that has been sent to you and your wife to the address which you live. That could help. You really should try and get landlord to write a letter stating that you and your wife life there and for how long and maybe 2 more affidavits from neighbors or friends. I wish you well.
