I need help on this information.

The Indian embassy in the US is planning to annual all the Indian passports which have 20 year validity. I heard they are gonna make only passports with 10 year validity as legal. Is this true?
Also I want to know if this is confined only to the US or all over the world.

What is the time limit within which the 20 year validity passports have to be converted to new 10 year ones.

---------- During 1997, 1998 they started providing passports for 20 years validity with extra fees and later after 2-3 years they again started Only 10 years validity passport and discontinued 20 years passport. The info provided by Indian Embassy is just advise, I think the 20 year passport is still valid and on other Indian consulate sites in US or Canada the info about 20 year passport has not been posted that one should get new passport for 10 year validity, it clearly means that 20 year passports are still valid. Do they think that everybody who is out of India checks the Indian embassy in US site? They have NOT given ANY time limit so the passports are valid and no need to panic. Even the ministry of external affairs site or Indian passport site does not have any info posted that 20 years passports will not be valid after XYZ date.

I agree with ginnu.

May be the original poster meant to say "stop issuing" instead of "annul".
