I was advised to bring copies of the last three years with me. My interview is this Wednesday. I never read anywhere to bring copies of the last 5 years...

Fill out another Form 4506 with the previous years you want. I just ordered for 8 years. You have to sign each form.

Thanks for your reply , i thought they will only give you the last three years
their form says
Return transcripts are available for the current year and returns processed during the prior 3 processing years. Most requests
will be processed within 10 business days

If you have copies of tax returns submitted by you or your accountant, you can bring those instead of the transcripts. I've never heard of anyone being told that only official transcripts are acceptable. In fact, my IO didn't even want to see my transcripts. He told me that the USCIS is only concerned with checking tax transcripts if the applicant is self-employed.

Thanks. I will use the copies that I have.

If you have a few weeks until your interview, I'd advise getting the transcripts, just to be on the safe side. It only takes a phone call to get them and they are absolutely free. It takes about 2-3 weeks to get them, so iluvfra wouldn't be able to get them in time for his interview. Again, the USCIS will definitely accept copies of your tax returns, but nothing beats an official document. If you have the time, definitely order them.

I will be eligible to file on 18th of Nov. I thought I have to wait to get the Transcripts to send along with N 400. I have already called to get them, if I don't, will file with Tax returns and take the Transcripts with me to the interview. Do you think its worth to wait an extra week?

You don't have to send the tax transcripts with your N-400. Just bring them to the interview. Meanwhile, go ahead and file. Good luck!

I have another question. I am filling based on 3 yr marriage criteria and thinking about sending as much documentation as possible, so I don't have to run around at the time of the interview, including proof of auto health and life insurance. I already have a bill from auto insurance with both of us on it. I am curious about what can be used as a proof of Health and Life insurance? is there anything I can get from the insurer or the employer? health insurance cards??

Even if you include as much documentation as possible, make sure to bring copies of this documentation to the interview. Documents get lost all the time, especially when the USCIS is involved. An auto insurance bill is a good start. You should also contact your health and life insurance providers and request letters from each of them, stating that your wife is covered under your health policy and that she is the beneficiary of your life insurance policy (if this is the case). I've recently read a post where an applicant was specifically requested to provide these letters. The IO refused to accept the cards.

Other good supporting evidence are statements for joint bank accounts, lease/mortgage documents, etc. In essence, gather as many documents as you can that have both of your names on them.

I already have the apartment lease for last 5 years with both of us on it. I am going to get the other two documentations from the companies. Should I use Vision and Dental as well or is it too much? :D
We are beneficiaries on each others life insurance.

The rule of thumb to keep in mind when dealing with the USCIS is that there is no such thing as too much when it comes to supporting documentation. Definitely use the vision and dental. If you take a look at JohnnyCash's post on the first page of "What documents to bring to the interview" sticky, you'll see a very exhaustive list of supporting documents. In most cases, it is definitely overkill (I brought all documents described in his post, but was only asked for my driver license and GC), but there have been plenty of occasions where an applicant who would otherwise be approved and given an OL on the spot was sent home with an RFE for some minor little document. I would even suggest bringing a letter from your spouse's life insurance, indicating that you are the beneficiary on his/her policy. If your spouse can attend the interview with you, even better. It's a lot better to be overprepared than be sent home with an RFE.

Vorpal, I have been reading your post elsewhere in different threads. Thanks.
I have filed for N400 in Sep 2008. I have been an LPR since last 1998 and been on re-entry permit twice in the early years and now filing based on 4yrs one day rule. My question is regarding the tax returns. Since the time as an LPR and whenever I was in USA, I filed my taxes from 1998 till 2002 even though the amount was meager but to maintain my GC, I wanted to be safe. Later I got a standard letter from IRS saying that if I have earned under such and such amount I need not file returns for 2002 and again received the same letter in 2003. In 2003 and major part of 2004, I was in India on re-entry permit and hence had no US income. I worked in 2006 in USA for about 3 months and later in 2007 I worked almost for the whole year and for 6 months in 2008. The only year when I had substantial income when I owed taxes was in 2007 so I have filed and paid my taxes in 2007. For 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, I did not file the return because of no/ less income, so I have requested and received from IRS “verification of non filing of returns” for these years and “transcript” for 2007, using form 4506T .Will also request for 2008 transcript later in 2009 before interview if required. One more thing, I have filed my returns as self employed.

For my earlier years 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002, when I filed taxes (even with low income), I do have copies. Can anybody suggest if I need to get transcripts or some statement from IRS verifying my filing for these years too? Also what is form 1722 and how it is different than 4506T? As suggested in these forums, the basic key is to show evidences of ties to US when not present here. Apart from tax returns which are not really substantial in my case, I have bank statements for all these years and now also have medical insurance bills. I have a huge family here including my children and we are all well connected and have get-togethers so that can show the emotional ties. I have also filed petition for my adult son who is already here on H1 visa. I hope that all this will show some indirect ties. Any inputs?
