My story is like this - My Husband and I got our Canadian immigration in 2004, so we moved to Canada in June 2004 and in 1 month we got our PR cards. Everything looked fine... but my husband just couldn't find a job in Canada. After trying for like 6 months he applied for a job in US... he got his H1 in June 2005. I didn't apply for H4 though... because it would spoil my chances for Canadian citizenship. I continued to stay in Canada with my in-laws. I visit my husband every now and then... and I stay with him for 2/3 months and then I go back to Canada and stay there for 2 weeks and then come back again.
I have been doing this for one year now. Yet I want to know whats the end to all this.
I mean my husband will apply for my green card along with his own and god only knows how long that will take...
but I can get Canadian citizenship without any hassle... I mean can apply for Canadian citizenship in June 2007... atleast I am eligible to apply and I can get the citizenship within 12 - 18 months.

I honestly don't want to live in Canada nor do I want Canadian citizenship. To be straight-forward and say I don't want to live with my in-laws. thats it.

My husband and I want to have a baby next year, but I don't know if I am eligeble to an Insurance here... on the other hand I can get all my medicals for free in Canada and a lot of other benefits.

My husband still likes Canada and he would like to go there and start a business and also reunite with his family. He feels or atleast he tells me that there are better chances of succeeding in business in Canada then in US.

I really don't want to go back to Canada and settle.

Is there any hope for me? any solution to my problem?

Is there anyone else with a same problem and has found a solution
please reply at desipsyche@gmail.com

I just want to go ahead apply for my green card with my husband whenever that is happening.
I want to have a baby here in the US. How to go about finding a good doctor and a good insurance policy.
please advise if i am missing an angle.

thanks,
DesiPsyche

If your hunsband is holding h1, the same company can provide you health coverage. Otherwise you can buy your own insurance less than $400 per month based on your health condition.

What is your profession. There are lot of ways to get away with your in-laws. I know how embrassing in living with in-laws without husband there.

Throw some more information and what kind of business your husband interested in. The burdon is on your part to convince to stay in US your hubby because he always inclined to stay with their people.

Having a baby in the U.S. can be very expensive unless you have very good heath insurance. I would think that cheap health insurance comes with very high deductibles and co-pays and is essentially meant for people who never get sick. Even most good health insurance comes with some deductible, and it costs a lot more. If you can get company-sponsored heath coverage, it saves a lot of money because the company pays a large part of the premium. Can you get on your husbands health plan, if he has one?

A typical hospital birth could cost $6,000 to $8,000. Say you have a $500 deductible and a 20% co-pay. The birth would cost you $1,600 to $2,000 out of pocket, excluding insurance premiums. With a $1,000 deductible and a 40% co-pay, you would pay $3,000 to $3,800, again excluding insurance premiums. If you run into complications during the birth, need/want a C-section, or need to stay in the hospital for some days, then I am sure it would cost more.

I guess the benefit would be that your child gains U.S. citizenship, but you should be ready to pay several thousand dollars for something you would get for free in Canada. Just preparing you for the possible cost. Cannot really tell you what to do or even where you would be able to find health insurance.

Thank you for your reply.
As for my husband he is working for an Indian Company.
He plans to quit soon and as soon as he get his GC start his own business.
But because of all the uncertainity he wants to go back to Canada where atleast our Citizenship is guaranteed.
Oh whatever I am just waiting and watching.

Thank you for all the help.

I really don't want to go back to Canada... no matter how good it is... all its economy, and other things... I can't stand Canada.

desi,

From your post, it sounds like you don't want to live in Canada at all. Maybe, you enjoy the life in the US more, when you visit your husband? I think you should consider what is the most important thing and place for yourself, then you can talk to your husband about both of your future. I believe money shouldn't be the main concern when you need to think about the future. (well, i'm not saying to waste money here...)

thank you TM

EXACTLY! TM.... I don't want to live in Canada at all.

I know... I mean money is not that important... we both are very happy here.
We hardly fight when we are together here... when in Canada there are so many pressures that I bicker a lot and that leads arguments.

you understand right?

if someone is in fix like me over deciding which is better Canada or USA...
they should check out this comparision chart I found on the internet.
http://www.unitednorthamerica.org/simdiff.htm

I am doing all this research only to convince my husband.
He is a very sensible man and I know he has my best interest at heart.
but he will never really know how much I hate going to Canada.

He thinks atleast our future is secured in Canada... as far the citizenship is concerned.
Because US citizenship can take 8-10 yrs sometimes even more.

Well lets see... no matter how much one plans... life has its own unpredictable ways.

thank you everyone for taking interest in my problem... I feel a lot better now.

Thank You.

Canada Vs. USA Healthcare

For all those who want to know more about Healthcare in Canada Vs. USA.

you should visit this page

http://www.unitednorthamerica.org/healthcare.htm

Again all this only to convince my husband not to go to Canada.

I know of some people who have waited for more than 6 months in Canada for an elective surgery...
really not worth it.

Good-Luck,
DesiPsyche

Hey, whatever you can use to convince your husband. If you really do not want to live in Canada, he should take your concerns seriously. I do not think health care should be a deciding factor. If you have a good job in the U.S. and get health insurance through your employer, then you are pretty well covered. While it is true that no one is denied care in the U.S., everyone is still expect you to pay. For people with little or no insurance, that can mean financial ruin if something serious happens, so just make sure to have good insurance. Also, it is a hassle every time the insurance company fails to process a claim properly, which happens more often than you might think. I have spent countless hours on the phone with insurance companies and hospital staff just to get stupid errors fixed on insurance claims. I think you are shielded from all that in Canada, but I could be wrong. That said, I do think the actual health care here is pretty good. My insurance allows me to see a specialist without a referal (for a nominal fee), which I doubt I would ever get to do in Sweden (a country with a health care system similar to Canada's).

Thank You

Thank You to all.

For all the info.

Also Swede is right... Canada there is a big waiting line for almost everything.

especially for elective surgery.

Anyways there is good news. My husband has agreed to stay in the US and we are applying for GC together.

I hope all goes well.

I love US.... Its the best place to be.

Thank you once again for all the help.

Love,
Desi
