Ok so 1 month after I got my GC I went to Europe to spend sometimes with family and friends - I left in mid Nov 03 and knew I am gonna be there longer than 6 months so I came back in March (3.5 months trip) and stayed here for a week and went back to Europe - my plans were to stay for 3 month however my dad passed away and I was there for 5 months and come back in August. could someone please let me know if this will be an issue during my interview? should I be concerned?

here are the dates

Departure date Return Date

11/18/2005 3/4/2006

3/11/2006 8/5/2006

They might ask you to prove US residential ties during the time since you left 1 month after obtaining GC and your travel pattern for next 8 months (Nov 2005-Aug 2006) shows you were out of the country most of the time.

Well,

I would provide a copy of your father's death certificate to explain the longer absence.
If you don't have a bean counter, s/he might consider this as sufficient explaination.

This of course on top of what Bob wrote.
