This is my experience while traveling on AP:
If your current passport has no valid/expired US visa stamp, carry the previously expired passport bearing atleast one US visa stamp.
My new passport, recently obtained from a consulate in the US, had no US visa stamp or any travel stamps. Returning from UAE after a stopover, I was asked to provide old passport(s) which showed that I legally entered the US. They specifically asked for any US visa stamps (even expired). Only after submitting that were they convinced.
Just a good practice as you'd never know what to expect.
