Immigration Reform

Just read some news about the Administration’s plan to pass new immigration laws.
Out of curiosity, can someone highlight the new proposed immigration laws?

Also, what are the pros and cons of the newly passed health care bill?

I found this on the health reform issue: cnn.com/2010/HEALTH/03/19/interactive.health.care.benefits/index.html?hpt=C2

This highlights ONLY the benefits of the HCB. But how it is going to be paid for and the affects on unemployment and the US economy is conviniently left out by the leftish media.

No business will hire any one more then necessary but might lay off even more W2 workers.

I'm glad we have 1099 (independent agents), or we had to let go of many....this is sad and many don't even realize how bad it is.

In The Netherlands there is no one or hardly any one working only on commissions so everybody is having the same deal...over here this is a different case...

Health care bill = higher taxes and more lay offs.....

Immigration overhaul...ask Obama...

Exactly. HCB = another burden on the already shrinking middle class, America's most important pillar.

Immigration reform = drug violance is already growing in the US and it is just a matter of time until it reaches unacceptable level. But I guess it is more important that the Democratic party will get a large voting base despite that most Americans OPPOSE immigration reform of any kind. Hope the GOP can block that insanity. We are headed to a disaster.

My co-worker (born in US) said: And today America died!

We heard the same today...Even a person who is paying $ 4 K per month for her family was stating she rather sticks with what she had then getting the Dem. health care bill pushed down her throat and it was suprising to me hearing that from this person since she has many health issues, but she was born here but her parents came from Europe and she follows everything over there and knows how it goes with her family in Greece.

I do have to say that I'm glad the cap is off although we hardly ever go to a doctor, but still $ 5 million isn't much if any of your family get's a serious illness since the $ 5 million is per family and not per person..

From a humanitarian perspective, our fellow human beings, who migrate to support their families, continue to suffer at the hands of immigration policies that separate them from family members and drive them into remote parts of the American desert, sometimes to their deaths. This suffering should not continue.

Now is the time to address this pressing humanitarian issue which affects so many lives and undermines basic human dignity. Our society should no longer tolerate a status quo that perpetuates a permanent underclass of persons and benefits from their labor without offering them legal protections.

This argument is ridiculous and pathetic. People who CHOSE to come here illegally knew exactly what they were (and still) doing and the possible consequences. They were not forcibly brought here by slave drivers on slave ships with no choice and no chance to escape. They sneaked through the border (or overstayed despite their promise) and now they demand all kinds of benefits nobody ever promised them and despite that there are millions of legal immigrants waiting for their turn. The immigration laws are in place for a very specific reason and breaking them (and any other laws) should not result any kind of reward but should be punished according to the current laws.

If this is to be solved there needs to be 2 factors that the US govt needs to target and the public needs to support overwhelmingly;

a) The Push factor => Organized crime that thrive by trafficking illegals
b) The Pull Factor => US businesses and enterprises that thrive using/employing the illegal labor.

Make new laws or implement the current that will make the lives of these two factors miserable. Go after them relentlessly, jail them close down the businesses, bankrupt them, make theirs and their families' lives miserable that no one will even think of pushing or pulling an illegal immigrant!!

But.....

The hypocritical US govt, media, and the partisan public would never support such a drastic course of action......ALL THAT THEY JUST WANT IS...PACK THE RAGS INTO OX WAGONS OR SAIL BOATS AND DEPORT THEM....NOW !!!

Good luck doing that.....social justice would work only if the cause is taken care of not so much on the effect.

Unless and until that is done and ALL support that move and ready to face the 'economic' consequences.....learn to live with the 'problem'

OR.......support a course of action that take the middle path in addressing a solution to the 'problem'.....do not think that you can have the cake and eat it too !

GREENCARD: I second you on your opinion. Besides, I think whoever that opposes that immigration reforms for the immigrants needs to go and read the history of America. It is no secret that America is the land of immigrants. Besides the native Indians, we could comfortably say the everyone else is an immigrant. That trend will need to go on for the survival of the American economy. The American economy certainly needs immigrants and is very much dependent on them. This is not just a case of boosting the economy but is in fact the raw molding of the economy! Let us all have an America that is growing to be today - an interracial one with full cooperation from all nationalities.

i agree with mary poppins. the illegals here know what they are getting themselves into. now, think about the millions of LEGAL non-immigrants, who chose to abide by the law, contribute to the economy, invest in this country thereby creating more employment, etc. many do not even have a path to permanent residency based on their visas. how fair is that?!! and the reforms allow the illegals amnesty? bullshit, i say!
they should first consider the LEGALs in the country and offer them the choice of becoming perm residents first. these are people who are more intelligent, have resources, law abiding and in the long run - good for the american economy. america needs good foreign talent.
if there should be an immigration reform ... it should be directed at converting legals here to perm res first before they do anything else with the illegals.

Its the same everywhere. Illegal is illegal.whether being there as a visitor , non-immigrant or overstayed etc there is hardly ever any reform. Its just gona be forcasted for a very long ,long time.its never gona take effect.
Pls i advice any illegal immigrant to go back to his or her original place of residence.

despite that most Americans OPPOSE immigration reform of any kind...

You must have gotten your statistics through Lou Dobbs or Rush Limbaugh. In every other bipartisan polls taken, more than 60% of American agree that the current immigration system is broken and that something needs to be done. Get your facts from a neutral source like gallup instead of the Sarah Palin's Going Rogue book.

And you must have gotten your fatcs from the liberal twisted AP polls. If you do some research only 30% of American VOTERS(!!!) would favor amnesty:
Just 30% would favor legislation that focused “exclusively on legalizing the status of undocumented workers already living in the United States.” Fifty-seven percent (57%) oppose that strategy, including 63% of Republicans, 52% of Democrats, and 55% of unaffiliated voters.

Fifty-seven percent (57%) favor a proposal giving “all illegal aliens up to three years to leave the United States. After leaving, the illegal aliens would have to get in line and wait their turn for legal entry into the United States.” Support for that concept comes from 67% of Republicans, 49% of Democrats, and 56% of unaffiliated voters.

And as a matter of fact I have not yet met a single American who would favor amnesty to illegals. Legals first ...

There is so much wrong with the legal immigration system that needs to be changed first and I expect many lawsuits if illegals get first priority over legal aliens.

Look at E2 visa holders...that is the worst kind of visa's...no chance of a GC while providing jobs for Americans and E2 visa holders kids have to go back to their native country if they can't get a visa them self at the age of 21....that is soooooo bad!

well said bentlebee!
all of you who support LEGAL non-immigrants here and to give them a path to perm residency if they choose ... please sign this online petition :
http://www.petitiononline.com/E2Visa/petition.html
this petition supports the E2 visa holders and allows them a path to perm res. singnatures will be fowarded to Adam Putnam a Florida congressman who is supporting this bill, which was originally tabled by congressman Heather Wilson. the bill has been submitted to congress.

take care of the legals first and i don't care what they do with the illegals. whether the tax payer's money is wastefully spent here or somewhere else, does it matter? they'll still frivolously spend your money anyway. so vote wisely, pick the right people to represent you and your consituency, question them, do what ever you need to do to make sure they are honest people who are going to do an honest job. if you care enough to voice your opinions, you should care enough to do something about it!

I signed it last year and the stories are heart breaking! I know several people who are here on E2 and it is disgraceful how they are treated. If they leave many more Americans are without a job! Any one who is in favor of illegals first have no clue what is going on with legal aliens who's background have been checked.

thank you bentlebee for your support for e2'rs. i am one of them. it's just that i have been lucky to win the 2010 dv lottery and am waiting for my cn to be current.
hopefully the government will realise sooner than later that legals are the people they need here and to take care of them first. how long before they realise that ... we don't know. i'm sure it's going to take a long time.
for you folks who believe in keeping and rewarding good immigrants in this country please sign the petition.

Congrats. You got what you deserve and that is a chance to obtain a GC something many E2 visa holders will never have. I have friends from England who are desperate and even their 19 year old daughter is thinking to get married to stay here, which the parent don't like...but they have not much choice.

They employ Americans, spent all their money over here and coming from England they can't play in the DV lottery....

You are so lucky...we never know if the DV lottery will be here in a few years...
