I applied to immigrate to Canada last year as a skilled worker (engineer) .. I recived an approval letter 2 days ago .. can I use RTD to go there ?!! is that possible. I am asylum and waiting for the GC .. is that will effect my status in the US.

anotherway, i have a question for you?
Did you applied through an attorney?
How many points do we need?
Did you have to learn French to meet the required pts?
I have an associate in computers , will that be enough to apply?
Your reponse will be appreciated thanks

I may be novice here. But tell this? how can immigrating to another country be same as seek protection from another country.
Asylum is a legal status to live in this country. The only expectation(not requirement) is not going to home country. Other than that it is same as any other legal resident.
So, tell me do you loose your residency if you migrate to another country. Remember i am not talking about asylum in another country just migration based on skills.

My recollection is that immigrants (including asylees?) lose resident status when they abandon the United States as their permanent home.

Basically you are "Country-less" in CIS's eyes when you apply for asylum and granted asylum. This is the whole purpose of issuing an RTD. CIS has automatically assumed that you have broken "ties" with your home country and sought protection in the US for an extended period. Even they can ask you before issuing GC if you still have fear of persecution and re-examine your situation (they don't do that because neither they have time nor do they resources to do so).

The important word is "Ties". If CIS establishes that you have developed "Ties" with another country (obtaining a permanent residency certainly falls into this catagory) they WILL DENY your GC and would tell you to leave this country.

By the way if you are so eager to go to Canada why do you want to retain your US immigration???

I bet you don`t lose anything if you migrate to Canada, infact it`s much more easier to adjust to PR or citizenship.

I have a bunch of friends who migrated their almost 5 years ago after some of whom were placed on deportation order in the U.S, now they`re Canadian citizens.

Canadian benefits are better than American if you`re an asylee, they provide free housing and education.

Well I have known people who are asylees but had their GC and applied for canadian PR's and got approved...They have a choice either to be a U.S Citizen or Canadian. Lots of em choose to be both. You need to be a candian PR for 3 years..to get your citizenship so they buy a house in U.S and pay taxes and have "Ties" to U.s

As a matter of fact, Lots of Indians who migrated to U.S on H1 and after 9/11..applied for canada and I personally know lots of em who have abused the U.S And canadian Pr System. Thats why there is a rush on it no matter where you are...

You can do it but have to be careful if you maintain your status in U.S

WEll we are not talking about who provides better benefits- US or Canada... the issue is of losing US Asylum/residency rights. And yes if CIS finds out that you have settled in canada (and thus enjoying benefits there) then they will definitely try to revoke your asylum (thats why they ask while issuing RTD about obtaining protection from other source)

I heard that one person who is PR (thru DV) of US, and got married to a German (now living in Germany). I believe he got German PR, but he works and lives here in US. Should the US revoke his US PR because he got PR of Germany thru marriage?

He shouldn`t have any problem in the US as long as he maintains presence and he does not reveal it to the US Govt.
