Hi all- My wife and I received our GCs after 5+ years of waiting!! I was wondering if there are any must-do next steps. I have been reading through these boards and there seems to some mixed info out there, so i though I would start this thread to see if you could provide your input. Only things I can think of are:

1) get new SS card (w/o the DHS language) for my spouse
2) I hear about GC stamp...what the heck is that?

Others please...

#1 is a good idea (for both of you). #2 is not necessary - it used to be that after approval you went to the local INS office to order your card and they would stamp the passport. Since the cards are now automatically generated, no longer necessary.

What I did almost in that order
1) update my file with employer (I-9) (must)
2) new SS card without this INS sentence for me and my wife (new applications for SS cards for kids)
3) New DL because my state issue DL for one year only for EAD and 5 years for GC (10 years for USC)
4) ticket to visit my home country and trip to other country for few days (secondary inspection on my return which stuck me for more than two hours in airport)
congratulation!

What sort of stuff did they ask you during the secondary inspection? Any special paperwork that you wished you had carried to avoid the hassle?

Thanks,

Stoned!

I already did the I-9

My SS card never had anything written on it...I have been here for 18 years..LOL! Do I still need a new card?

Thanks

No extra paper work they need, just GC and passport. I just waited for my turn (about 2 hours or so) in that room with three officers sitting behind computers. Many visa holders, GC, USC waiting like me and when my turn came he asked me have you been arrested before? I told him no (my GC was issued just few weeks or so), then he told me OK you can go now.
