immediate application for 2 year reentry permit?

Hi, I am not sure if anyone can help with this, but I'm getting nowhere with other sources of information.

I will be interviewed for the DV2010 visa shortly. The problem is that I have a tenured university position and it will likely take a year or more to secure an equivalent position in the US.

Can anyone tell me if under these circumstances it would be possible to enter the US to activate my permanent resident status, apply for a 2 year re-entry permit, and return to my home country while seeking a university position, all during a short visit of a week or so? Taking the time from work or accommodation costs to stay for a protracted period to sort this out would be a very difficult.

Well you would ideally want to wait for your GC first. But, you can probably apply for an expedited RP using the stamp in your passport (I think it will work too) and go once you complete your biometrics appointment, asking CIS to either send the RP to the closest US mission to where you live or to the US address you use as your "residence" where someone you know can check the mail and FedEx it to you abroad.
 
cafeconleche, thanks for the response. Is there any way of getting definite information on something like this? I can't afford to take any gambles. Immigration lawyer?
