Here is my interview experience.
I got up at 4 am, got ready and left house at 5:45. I reached at Charleston Office at 8.45 AM and It was a small neat office with not much crowd. I had appointment at 1.00 PM and i just went up to the guard and asked him as to when i can come back again to get in. He said i can come around 12.15 Now waiting game had started. So from there, i went to a nice little Bistro after roaming around historic Charleston.Around 12:20 I came back to the USCIS Office and went through the security Check and dropped my appointment letter at Counter No 2. After which, i picked up a spot and had just got seated down and while i was getting ready to review the 100 q's one last time, I heard my name and I walked up to the door. Interviewer was a nice gentleman, asked me to follow him to his room. My heart started beating little faster. As soon as we reached his office ,he asked me to put all the stuff on the chair and raise right hand for oath. After oath he asked me to sit down and I started praying in my head. He asked for my Passport, GC and Driver License Than he started asking me about my birth date, last visit out of usa, Number of Kids i have. While I was answering him about my birth date and GC date, he said no travel outside USA and you dont have any kids yet !! I said no i did not leave USA at all and yes, i dont have kids too. At this point he gave back my passport without opening it, and also my driver license. He asked me when i became a Permanent Resident. I told him the date, he looked at the GC and said Correct!, and gave back that as well.
He asked me to read: Who is Abraham Lincoln?
He asked me to write : Abraham Lincoln was the president during the Civil War.
At this time, he made me sign on those two sheets and said , Congratulations, you have passed the reading and writing tests. Now lets move on to the Civics Part.
Name 1 of the longest river?
What do we call the first 10 amendments to the constitution?
We elect the president for how many years?
In what month do we vote for President?
What is the name of the speaker of the house of representatives now?
What happened at the Constitutional Convention?
After this test he made me sign those sheets as well. Now we got into the application part. He asked me to sign the botton of the sheet and took a couple of signatures ( like attorney waiver as my case was filed by an attorney , but he was not there ), so he wanted to be sure i was ok and comfortable doing the interview all by myself.
In between all this , suddenly he asked do you know what the Oath of Allegiance means ?? I was like yeah. I explained in two - three sentences as to what that means. He was like Good, that's all i wanted to know.
So as i was signing the papers, he asked me my address, few Yes/No's questions, he never asked for 1 single document that i had carried.
He went thru my entire application so quickly and within a few minutes like maybe 3 -4 . He gave me the paper which said I have passed the test and she congratulated me handed me the oath letter for that afternoon at 1.30 PM and asked me to wait about 30 minutes for my Oath. At this moment I was so surprised and I couldn't believe that I made it.
At this time i was just gasping for breath and literally tears was just rolling down !!! He said , OK, Yes, -- Congratulations, your case has been approved for Citizenship, you can take the Oath today and go home as a Citizen
I came out of his office and sat down on the chair front of the windows. Around 1.30 a lady came out of the door and said, All those who are taking the Oath please follow me.
She took to a nice room in the back of the office and she called the first 7 of us and asked us to check our certificates and make sure everything is correct. She gave us a packet and asked us to surrender our green cards and also collected the interview results/oath Paper from us.
It was at this point it really really hit, Yes I am a US Citizen just moments away and once the oath is done, Its a done deal.
We watched a couple of videos and then the director of the DO did the Oath and Pledge. She called us each one of us, gave our certificates and finally said, Congratulations you are all Proud Americans from this moment.
There was all mixed emotions over the room. People were happy, crying, tears of joy... all moods
Guys, this is my today’s experience. It was nice and now I finally am US Citizen. I would like to thank you all the members of this forum for your help and support which helped me to get thru and also thanks to Mr. Rajeev Khanna for this forum.
Please do not hesitate to ask me any questions. If I have miss anything I will add to this thread later on. Good luck to all of you and God Bless America.
