Dear Guys,
I want to know if there is Mohammed in the name does it stuck in the FBI name check? Please share the exprience.

I know a Mohammed who cleared the name check without any problems and became naturalized in a few months. This was after 9/11/01.
 
The same can be asked about Ali, Ahmed, Syed. I don't think they target general Muslim sounding names, but rather target specific full names.
 
Myself too have no prob when I got my GC. But we can see lot of pain in this forum. do you think most of the Name stuck with FBI is muslim?

Nope, not at all. Not sure which posts of pain you are referring to. Sure, there are many people stuck in name checks, but most name check victims seem to be East European (esp Russian) or Chinese. Many Muslims have posted on this board saying that they got their N-400 processed in a speedy manner.
 
I know people that has name like Mohammed Islam. They had no problem. They put everyone through the same process. Don’t worry a bit.. Good luck !!
 
I don't think it is just a specific name. It is a combination of several different things...like name, date of birth, nationality, etc.,
If there is a partial match with someone on FBI list, then the automated system won't clear it, and it is assigned to a person to manualy clear it. It will stay pending..till that person gets around to doing his/her work.
It is not just a terrorist watch list names, or muslim names. If your personal information matches any criminal known to FBI...then your file could get stuck in the name check.
 
I don't think that they target particular names. I think, though, it is true that if in your culture your name is a common one (meaning first + last), you could trip alarms in the name check system. And that is not because they target a particular nationality, but rather because there is a high chance that your name or a similar sounding one (they still use the Soudex algorithm to do searches according to the recent DOJ audit) is in their system.

I have a Russian name and got stuck in the name check for almost 2.5 years for my green card. It only cleared when I filed a WOM suit. I am anxiously waiting what will happen with my naturalization name check now....
 
I had no problem in my GC even though I face the problem most of the time when I travel. The airline staff told me that there is similar name person who is terrorist so we have to clear your name with Honland Security Head Quater. Although they don't take much time to clear it. But the real pain is in arrival. In the arrival I have to wait 2-4 hours at the airport in the HS waiting Room. Some time I give airline my passport No. Nationalty,date of birth in advance so there is chance that I don't have to wait there and cleared within minuts.But sometime it doesnt work.

Do some one know how long it take to clear our name if we file complain to TSC? How long they clear our name from the watch list?

My name does not have any name or variation mentioned above and I am stuck in name check.

FP - 05/07
one of my friends who has non problematic name he is tuck in name check for 2 yrs since 2006, we are both hindus.
so I can say name does not matter.

My GC came through quickly.(I did not even know at that time that they do name checks for GC too).

However after I got GC I was victim of identity theft. That may have my name in some file as victim. and as I understand the process it gets a hit even if it is a victim. so probably I got stuck in name check.
(Guys this is just my guess).

So pray that you do not get stuck in name check:)

How some one steal your identity? How can we aware of that problem? I think that is the reason you name stuck with name check.

Most common scenario: wallet is lost or stolen, thieves use your identification in wallet to make purchases for themselves racking up large purchases under name , and in the process ruin your credit.
 
The ironies of a name check: changing your name from Mohammed Ahmed to Jesus Diaz only to be flagged down by the FBI :D
 
Excuse my ignorance.... Is there a way to know when the name check has been completed? Is the name check the included in the fingerprint check?
 
Name change my means just the spelling or add last name not just like Mohammed to Jeorge. Mohammed remains there but correction in the current last name or say the current last name would change to middle name and also spelling bit change. and also add new last name. I mean in current name I don't have family name so I want to add it at the interview time.

What about kids name change? Do anybody have idea what is the procedure to change kids name before we make the us passport? Do we have to go through court procedure?

man my name was not mohammad not amjad not khali not bush not saddam I was still in that black hole.

If your name is Osama Bin Laden then I am sure your name check will be cleared in a flash as they won't expect him to apply for N-400. I will make sure I name my kids apple or banana based on their sex.

Man, just change your name. Otherwise, you will be in trouble every time you travel. Do it ASAP. Change it to Mat Brown or Joe Anderson, then your name will clear in 2 days.
