If I have an EA card, do I get a new SSN?

Hello,

Just a quick question. I was on a J1 visa and I had a social security card and number (valid for work with DHS authorization). Now, because of my asylum pending status, I have an EA card (category C08)

Will I get a new number and card if I apply because of the change of my status, or I can just continue using the old one that I had when I was on J1?

You will always have one SSN so you should continue using that.

Your SSN is always the same, and in this case your card stays the same. When you get permanent residence, you can get a new SS card without that "valid for work..." line.

When your asylum is approved, you will need to get a new social security card. Number stays the same.
