I485 Interview letter received from Atlanta Local INS

Just a little reply to bump the thread and give you an answer, too!

Your attorney probably received the transfer notice, not you. I imagine he or she will get the interview notice as well.

Any more Atlanta interview news, folks?

Update

I spoke with a very pleasant constituency representative in Rep. Johnny Isakson's district office today. She asked me to fax over a privacy release form, and she'd inquire at the Atlanta office regarding when my and my wife's interview would take place. It's been 512 days since the I-485 was received.

On a side note, there is apparently an individual in the Atlanta INS office whose main job is to deal with Congressional inquiries for the entire NC, GA and TN Congressional delegations. Makes me wonder how many Congressional inquiries they get on a weekly basis. :)

Will keep everyone informed.

TheRealCanadian...

Thanks for the update. You say your case has been over 500 days pending. Can you update us on when was it transferred to the local Atlanta office? My case was transferred in september. I talked with my lawyer this week and she adviced me on going personally and finding out what's going on as they caanot find how long it takes once the case is transferred to the local office.
thanks once again for the update

Sure - I'd love to help. Here are the dates and the info:

EB3/RIR/VA/Canada
PD: 9/13/2000
LC AD: 11/5/2000
I-140 RD: 12/21/2000
I-140 AD: 7/16/2001
I-485 RD: 8/28/2001
I-485 ND: 10/26/2001
FP: 1/31/2002
RFE: 8/2/2002
RFE RD: 8/28/2002
TD: 10/21/2002
Rec'd in ATL: 11/25/2002

So it took around a month to get moved down to the local office from VSC. When I was in the local office, I asked the lady to do a RAFICS check for me to validate that the file was physically in the Atlanta office. If the file ain't there, you're not getting an interview date. All was good.

My feeling is that the local offices are somewhat of a black hole, especially for attorneys who specialise in EB cases, since very few of those cases ever have the misfortune of getting routed via a local office. You'll also find that the local offices make the Service Centers an open book by comparison when it comes to the amount of information they provide.

You may want to do what I did if you've been waiting for a while; call your representative. They typically deal with more FB cases, which means that they know people in the local offices and know how to get information and what it means.

Thanks TheRealCanadian...

Thanks for the update. My RD is July 2001 and ND is August 2001 My trasfer date is september 4, 2002. I had been to the local office in october and was told that they received the file on sep 11,2002 and started looking at it in the first week of october.
Can you let us know how to find who our representative is and all the details to discuss the case with them. Does this help and is it safe in the sence that will it have any negative effect on the case

Thanks once again

What's your zip code? I can tell you, or look at http://www.house.gov/.

You'll need to fax over a "privacy release form" to your rep's office so that they can inquire on your behalf. I wouldn't worry about any negative effect on your case - this is America, and bureaucrats know better than the screw around when a Congressional office gets involved.

I found the name of my representative
Where do I find the "privacy release form"

Look on their individual web site. Both my representative and one of my senators had it on their site, somewhere under "constituent services".

Update

I called my Representative's office back today, and the lady told me that Atlanta INS is currently backlogged handling Special Registration - they have received far more registrants than they anticipated. Planning? INS? Just don't go together, I guess.

Until Special Registration is over, don't expect any progress on the Atlanta INS front. Makes me wonder why our original poster got his interview letter. Lucky soul.

Any Idea....

Does anybody know when is the end dat for the special registration. I am assuming its going to be a long wait as they keep adding new countries for special registration every few days. BTW the realcanadian, I looked up on my representatives site and couldnot find the "privacy release form". ANyways I am plannin gon going to the local office personally next month.
And yes, "therealcanadian" thanks for posting the update, we should keep this thread moving as I think Atlanta local office is the alowest as compared to other local offices

Group I/II should end on Feb 7th. Group III (which includes Pakistan and Saudi Arabia and is I suspect the largest) ends on Feb 21st. Group IV doesn't start until February 24th, and doesn't end until March 28th. We'll see what will happen. This whole thing is a mess. Our consolation is that there appears to be some efforts on the part of the Senate to deny funding to NSEERS, considering what a utter boondoggle it has been. If that happens, then I suspect Special Registration will come to an abrupt end (causing even more chaos).

If you do not mind, give me your ZIP code or tell me your Representative. Let me see what I can do for you.

Ah, you've got Majette's district. She's just getting her office set up. You may want to deal with Sens. Miller or Chambliss (probably Miller, Chambliss is new too).

Spoke to the lady from Rep. Isakson's office again. She took another look at my file and seemed to get confused by the fact that I filed in VSC and it's now in Atlanta. "When did you move to Atlanta?", she asked me. "When I came to the US". That doesn't clear things up for a lot of folks. :)

She's going to make an inquiry because her curiosity is piqued. She said that they may have "closed the case", which is definitely surprising to me. I don't see "closed" meaning "approved", so I'm glad she's sniffing around for me. We'll see what happens.
