1) Since i got my GC, can i apply GC for my parents now? or do i have to wait till join in citizenship? how long would it take for them to get their GC after i apply?

2) what difference between advance parole and reentry permit? i am going to travel for like a couple of weeks, which one should i use?

thanks you for the answers!!! :D

As permanent residents you cannot apply for your parents to immigrate thru the I-130 process. Only citizens can do that. When you become a citizen you submit the I-130 to the INS. Your parents can arrive here as soon as the INS and the the consulate abroad process the paperwork. Parents of citizens are considered immediate relatives and they are not subject to quota restrictions.

You can invite your parents to visit the US. But they have to convince the US consulate that they would actually go home after the visit. In most third world countries this is hard.

If your parents qualify as refugees themselves they can have priority access to US resettlement by virture of their relationship to you. Check with the State Department for details.

1. Only after citizenship.. process can still take 1-2 years

2. RTD valid for 1 year. AP for 2 years. Go for AP. Fee is the same.

AP uses the same book as RTD just that its valid for 2 years right? and we still do need to apply for Visa travelling to most countries except Singapore and Germany?

AP Is a document like a letter...Its not a passport. Rentry Permit is the same book as the RTD. AP is not valid for 2 years. Its valid for the duration of your trip and it can be obtained by anyone...including people under deportation status, I-485 still in process, Employment I-485...

Do not confuse AP with Rentry Permit.

If you are a greee card holder based on prior asylum status you can either have a Refugee Travel Document or a reentry permit. AP is not applicable.

AP validity

Want, just one comment - AP is valid for one year just like RTD, and you can ask for "multiple entry" AP.

Thanks,
L.

When we are using AP or Re-entry permit for travelling abroad, do we need National Passport too or just AP or Re-entry permit will do the job.
Thanks.

AP is only for people with GC's in process..and Rentry Permit is for people with GCs ....Get it? RTD is for asylees only with GC in process or GC in hand.

Thanks for quick reply. Can Asylees use Rentry permit or they have to have RTD?
Thanks.
