HI all,
I am a student on F-1 visa married to a US citizen. I applied for visitor visa for my parents this year and they did not get multi-year visa. But they did get one year visa that expired this November. I want to know in event of re-applying b1/b2 visa for my parents again next year, will my F-1 status affect their multi-year visa? My parents have been to the US once and went back before the stipulated time (i.e. without any extensions or expiry etc.). This being the second time, how likely is it for them to get a 10 yr. or 5 yr. multi-entry visa?

Second question: If I have my husband sponsor, would I still be required to send all my papers? I did so the first time. just wanted to double check.

eagerly awaiting for response,
thanks a lot in advance

Firstly, you never applied for their B-2 visas. They applied for their own B-2 visas.
Secondly, no sponsor is needed for B-2 visas.

By sponsor I meant the affidavit of support form that is sent for visitor visa. and what about my question about sending papers (invitation, affidavit of support etc.) on an F-1 status?

Contrary to popular belief, this too is not required for B-2 visas. For some reason, some members of this forum reckon that it is mandatory!!! If that was the case, I would have never been able to visit the US before I started living in North America. :)

If you really want to send an I-134, then go ahead. You being on F-1 status does not make you ineligible.

Since your parents have not violated any visitor visa law, they are likely to get 10 year multi visa this time provided they establish their ties in their home country.
If they can self sponcer thier visitor visa, it will be good.

What do they need to self-sponsor? When I sent the papers the first time, I sent them the invitation letter, affidavit of support bla bla (everything there is in the recommended list when you sponsor a visitor).
Now if they self-sponsor, would I need to send any formal invitation letter? I guess I wouldn't need to send an affidavit of support either. in which case, can you list out the documents they'd need for the interview.

thanks a lot for your responses

Don't need to worry on this. Last time, if you had sponcered their visit to USA, you can do the same.
For self sponcering, parents need to show thier properties, bank balance, income tax certificates etc.
The basic information the VO looks at is the ties in their home country and will return to their home country once the visit is over.
