Hi Sessanga,

Again congrats! How did you travel to your COP? I mean did you use your NP? Did you renew it? If yes, did you say you renewed it? I am asking because your answers will really help us understand the consepquences of going back to COP. Thanks!
 
Congrats Sessanga Charlesa. I'm happy whenever someone gets their citizenship as it always closes a stressful and long chapter in their lives! (Of course I am included.)

Yes i used my NP which i renewed after i became PR.
During my interview showed both the old and the new one.

Again do not go back to COP unless it is emergency or if the climate for whatever you applied asylum for has changed, and the bottom line is you have to be prepared to prove it in case you are asked why you went back otherwise you will be denied citizenship and be deported.

There are however exceptions for asylees/refugees who do not have to prove anything e.g and Iraqis,Somalians.

Congrats you are now a citizen of this country. The info you provided are very helpful especially on the topic of renewing your NP after having your green card.

I have the same situation.
GC through asylum (AS6)
Renewed NP, travelled to COP for emergency, no problems when entered US.
N400 filed 5/30
FP done 6/23
IL - still to come...

Did you renew your NP right after you got your Green Card?

When you traveled to your COP when you got back to POE ,what did you show them, I am presuming you gave them GC+NP right ?

Renewed it a couple of months after i became a PR.

I gave them my NP and GC at POE, they asked me all countries i traveled to,stamped in my passport,and that was it.

Shefe,
I actually extended the existing passport after I got my GC.
When I traveled to COP, I showed them GC+NP.
I was only asked where did I go, for how long, nothing else.

Those who remember in the past forums,some members argued that if you go to your COP you are likely to be denied citizenship.But i stood with my 2 feet and explained that you can go back only for emergency purposes or if the political situation has changed and have to have corroborated evidence for any of those reasons.
that is what i meant when i said i was like a guinea pig because i went to COP and i will not be denied citizenship.
