Hi,
I am a United States Citizen and I acquired US citizenship in 2008 through Naturalization. Let me tell very clearly what my objective is,stepwise,

First thing I want to seek Canadian Citizenship. Is it possible to acquire Canadian citizenship by default(i.e being a US citizen) or are there any time-consuming steps required for that. Also do I need to really acquire Canadian citizenship to bring my brother there.
Once I get the Canadian citizenship, I would like to sponsor my brother Canadian Visa thru some kind of visa/GC/Sponsored Citizenship.I want to try for Canada, because I know it would take a lot of time to do the same thing to bring him to US. Or is there any other country where I can easily sponsor him visa. I thought Canada being so close, it would be better for me to try there. In fact honestly, I tried to bring him on H1 and it did not work out.

I feel so bad that even being a citizen of USA, I cant even bring him on any visa. There should be some way,I feel. I hope some really workable solutions will be presented/replied to this thread. I desperately would like to help him to US/Canada.
Really appreciate a quick response.
Thanks.

I think you are in a wrong forum..we are more focused on the US immigration issues...

Last time, I have checked..USA and Canada are different Countries...US Citizenship does not give any canada immigration (similar to UK, French, German immigration, etc ) benefits...May be, you are confusing with the relaxed travel requirements between US and Canada...for US citizens.

I think you have to 1st to become Canadian Permament Resident (Canadian GC) yourself then you have to live there (similar to US) to apply for Canadian citizen...

This is a canadian gov immigrattion service portal ....have a look...but be aware that you do this, you will end up being Tax resident both in Canada and USA.....

No you cannot obtain Canadian citizenship by "default." You would have a better chance winning the lotto then that!

To even obtain Canadian citizenship for yourself, then your brother, and then obtain a immigrant visa for U.S. PR for him would prob take 20-25 years.....

You don't need to be a Canadian citizen to bring him to the U.S, just an American which you said you are.

I am confused with this one!

Canada is more restrictive than the US when it comes to sponsoring siblings. As far as I know, they don't allow sibling sponsorship, except for siblings who are orphans under 18, or siblings brought in as dependents of their parents who are being sponsored.

However, they have a points system that may allow your brother to qualify on his own merit, based on his education, work experience, English/French fluency, etc. For details, look in the Canada section of this forum (http://forums.immigration.com/forumdisplay.php?50-Canada-Visiting-Living-in-Moving-to-or-Moving-From) and other web sites that are focused on Canadian immigration.

Or you could petition your brother to get a US green card, but that takes 10+ years.

I am sorry, but THIS IS DISRESPECT to our neighbor country. You want to be a citizen just to bring your brother here? So you will be misleading Canadian government in declaring your loyalty to that country?

May be you can realize that this is very wrong!

Get your brother a job here, or get him a student visa !

Hi,
Is it possible to acquire Canadian citizenship by default(i.e being a US citizen)

Absolutely possible. Canadia is looking for qualified people, and Americans, being so absolutely freaking awesome, are at the top of the list. Just by being American, here's what Canadia will give you FOR FREE:

Canadian citizenship. You can sponsor parents, family, siblings, cousins, ex-girlfriends, people you drunkenly chatted up in a bar and random IM contacts.
Free health care. Even if you don't have a disease, they'll operate on you for free as if you did. (Windsor hospitals are doing masectomies for women without breast cancer.) How awesome is that?
Free housing. They'll give you a fancy house in Westmount, Rosedale or Shaugnessey. Your choice.
Free education. Not just primary and secondary school - a Bachelor's, Master's and PhD!
Free spouse. You'll get your choice of attractive virgins. 42 of them if you're Muslim. Non-Muslims are also eligible for 42, if they're masochistic enough.

Immigrate to Canadia today! I can (for a small, or not so small, fee) give you all the information you need for a fantastic life of wealth and luxury for no effort at all in Canadia, just because as an American you are so freaking awesome!!!!!!!!

Seriously, dude. WT*?

By default ... the only way I can think of this is for Obama to attack and incorporate Canada into US. But it would not be the same thing the, would it?

I think we should start the movement "join USA"....not sure if canada will sign up...

seriously, let me to add a little "distraction", i have heard that if quebec leaves canada, the possiblity of Canadian western provinces joining USA is real...there is hope for OP.

You might not be aware of a little provision in the United Nations charter that says that a US citizen is automatically a citizen of any other country, no restrictions, and can automatically confer all sort of immigration benefits to relatives, or anybody you like as The Real Canadian said. However, I just wanted to point out that this special benefit of US citizenship can be extended to any other country. No need to do any stinking paperwork. Just show at the border and tell the immigration officer that you are now a citizen of that country. You might even try to ask for a government cabinet position or similar government job, although these kind of jobs are scarce due to high demand from other US citizens. Of course, this post is all tongue in cheek. Some other people have provided serious answers to the original post.

He can become prime mister of Canada too (right away.) No wait, of course, for all U.S. citizens.
