I-94 Expiry & Passport Expiry

My H1B visa stamp and my latest I-94 are valid till March 2006. But my passport expires on April 2005. I am planning to visit India in Dec-2004 for vacation (five months before expiry of passport).

While returing back to US, what will be the strategy of CIS offcer in POE to issue the I-94 for me? What will be my departure date in new I-94? Will it be up to March 2006 based on visa & H1B appoval or April 2005 based on my passport expiry date?

Is it advisable to travel just five months before the expiry of passport. Advice is appreciated.
 
There seems to be sufficient time for you to renew your passport, now from Indian embassy. Why not just do that. Because ur I-94 cannot exceed expiry of ur passport. You will have to file for extension of stay after you enter.

Indiant consulate does not take much time, if u live in big city then this is often taken care of in visa camps (check the website for more info and schedle).
 
best option get your new passpot copy from any Indian consulate and then staple both the passports. show both passports at POE. if your Passport in India was from big city then your passport will be ready in 2 days through Indian consulate in US, becase now most of the passport office info is available to them it is on computers. if it is from small village then they may take 3-4 weeks time. It is much better to get new copy of passport in US.
