I-9 (Employment verification) form for asylees

I know that asylees are authorized to work without expiration data. Also, on the SSA website, it says that asylees are treated like permanent residents.

My question is what should the asylee select when he/she fills out I-9 form?

* A lawful permanent resident
or
* An alien authorized to work until (expriation date)

If I select the second option, what expiration date should I put? and what documents should I provide?

Is it legal to select the first option (lawful permanent resident)?

no it's not legal because you are not a PR. just choose the second one and put INDEFINITELY. If you can mention somewhere that you are an asylee and you have unrestricted work authorization. as for the documents, i would provide a copy of my I-94 and asylum approval letter. if u have a SSC, provide a copy of that too.

According to the new I-9 form instructions, I-94 and the approval letters are not one of the documents that the employer might accept.

Will the employer be satisfied with the unrestricted SSC and a driver license?
Is it against the law if the employer asks for another proof of immigration status?

Page 2 of the I-9 tells you all the documents that are acceptable for employment. I always use my driver's license and SSN for employment.
