I-797 renewal and Canadian passport renewal at the same time

My company is planning to renew my H1B (I797) next week. I am also planning to renew my Canadian passport next week.

Is this ok? Will there be any issues if I renew my Canadain passport during I-797 renewal.

I may travel to Toronto and get the passport renewed during I-797 renewal.
 
I-129 is the process for H1.

Your passport status is unimportant for this. You only submita copy of your pasport for ID purposes.

Leaving US during I-129 process does not affect it.

of course, your current H1 must still be valid to re-enter.
 
My employer's lawyer always says I cannot travel outside US while I-129 is pending or the application gets nullified!! So my employer always pays for premium processing because of what she says. She also told me that I could get a new I-94 that expires at the end of the extension that just got approved. But the CBP officer told me she couldn't issue a new I-94 because the extension does not start till March and my current I-94 is good till then. Apparently lawyers are not always right!
