It's coming up to two years since getting my Green Card, and I'm just filing my I-751 to remove the conditions. Think I have most of it in order, but stumbled over one of the 'Evidence of Relationship' documents. It asks for an Affidavit "...sworn to or affirmed by at least two people" from someone we've known since conditional residence was granted. My questions are 1) is this compulsory? 2) if it is, does it need to be notarized? and 3) is it simply a letter stating the basic facts as laid out? Finally, it adds 'Affidavits must be supported by other types of evidence listed above'... what does this mean? The other evidence listed is things like joint statements and financial records - how can this relate to this third party affidavit? Hope my question wasn't too long, and thanks in advance for any information.

Affidavits carry the least weight as far as an I-751. If you and your spouse have your finances co-mingled, lose the affidavits. My wife and I did not bother to send any affidavits.

Is really up to you to include those affidavits. I did it but there are others that just add one or none at all. Is one of the many things that "can" be include in the package.
If you include them they must be notarized. Means the person who sign it must be in front of the notary.
You must include whatever financial obligations, bills, credit info that you both had in both names or each one names, but at least a couple in both names.
To be sincere I read that part too and sounded kind of confusing...but what I did to avoid whatever issue is that first one my affidavits was from my father in law, so it was self explanatory that was from my husband's father and I included in the package a trip that we did to his house at the beach and put a sticky note "Dad...blah blah". Same as my friend's affidavit. I don't know is that what they meant but I just put all that kind of things to avoid confusion.
By the way, normally is only the affidavits and they should state who they are, the relationship to you, etc. You can look or google for templates about the affidavits. The rest of the documents that you must include are your trully evidence, that is about:
-financial bills, credit cards, mortgages, leases
-insurances car, homeowners, health, other assets.
-you can include wills, living will and whatever other legal document in both names
-trips, tickets, greeting cards that shows both names, invitations (even the envelope that states both names), etc.
-personal information from your work and her job as well that says who are the emergency contact, spouse, address or whatever other info that might help.

Thanks very much for the reply. Because of the reasonable amount of conflicting advice on the various forums, I thought I'd be safe rather than sorry, and got a couple of friends to do the letters anyway. Really wasn't a big deal, so seemed worth it. Your input greatly appreciated.
