I-551/ GC plastic card change of address

Hi Gurus,

- I-551 stamped on passport after I-485 approval. Awaiting GC palstic card.

- Moved house after I-551 passport stamping, so mailing address got changed.

- Called INS call center to report change address, so that GC plastic card reaches new address.

- Call center said that cannot change address over phone as application is already approved. Wait for 30 days, till you get Welcome letter and then call again. I have not received the Welcome letter as of yet.

- I have already confirmed with Post office for change of mailing address.

Please advise on solution to change address to ensure that GC plastic card reaches my new address.

Post offices return USCIS mails without forwarding as all the USCIS envelopes have "return service requested" marks. Sometimes post office forward them by mistake, but don't count on it.
You can write a letter/FAX requesting your service center to send your card to your new address. But that may not work too. Keep an eye on your I-485 online status. If you get a message that says that your card is returned, then write a letter or send a FAX requesting your card to mail in your new address.

In addition, don't forget to file AR-11 (I hope you already did).

Normally after approval, best option for address change is do it while passport stamping.
 
The envelope with Green Card dont have stamp "return service requested" the envelope is like any credit card envelpoe.

My GC envelope had "RSR" stamp on it (in fact all the notice/letter I received had RSR stamp on envelopes).

Even most of the banks put "RSR" on envelopes when they send credit/check cards - to avoid fraudulent address forwarding.
 
As Ginnu suggested mine had no "Return service requested" stamp on it. In fact there was no mention of Nebraska Service Center. . Looked like ordinary letter.

However the change of address confirmation letter had the grand USCIS logo,etc and also the "Return Service requested" stamp.
