Hello,

Can someone please help with following question

H1B fourth year with company A. Approved I 140 and pending I 485.
Applied EAD and AP

If I need to leave my current Job, with I 485 pending?

- And I don;t find another job. Would my status be legal and won;t effect my GC process or does it?

- How long I can stay legal, not working, when my I 485 is pending.

Is this correct that the new job skill should match to the job that I 140 was filed and approved ?

Can I find a job of different skill set, if I ask company B to apply/ transfer for my H1-B. And my GC with company A can progress normal?

What are my choices to goto new Job if
- my I 485 get approved and I have EAD in 180 days
- or if does not get approved in 180 days. I am not sure how does this work.

Is this still true that I have to work for company A (current) for atleast another 3-6 months if the I 485 get apptoved in 6 months of applying. to show my intent to work for it?

Can someone please give me some suggestions that what are my best options to secure my GC if I need to leave job when I 485 is pending.?

I would really appreciate Thanks a lot... in advance for taking time to help me.

Actually the answer for your question has two aspects.
First: if you loose your job while I-485 is pending you are still in legal status and the pending status itself will make your status legal with or without EAD and/or job
Second: Being without job, leaving the employer who sponsored your GC petition or changing your field altogether will put you at great risk and your application itself may be denied or revoked by your employer. At that time (denial of I-485) you will be out of status. So, play it wisely.

Thanks Mmed.. for your wise advise and taking time to reply.. I was actually trying to get some legal advice as well..
My main concern is stay legal for atleast 2 years.. on pending I 485.

If I 485 declined then I know.. I am out of staus. If I find different kind of job on Company 2 H1B. Do I need to transfer my GC process with them.

If my I 485 approved and I am not working.. Is that fine or my GC will be revoked as I will not be working for my employer, who filed my GC

Thanks again
hoping to get some advice

Yes, you should transfer your GC

possible but very unlikely

Thanks again
hoping to get some advice
