I-485 Approval Interview Requirements

Hi All,
I am a little ways away from getting my 485 approval. But I still would like to get some info for if/when the approval comes.
I have filed as the primary applicant and my husband has filed along with me at the VSC.
I would like to know what documents are required as proof of marriage at the interview. Is the marriage certificate enough or do you need bank statements, tax filing papers, etc? Can someone tell me specifically what you need for this purpose? Also what other documents do you need so I can be sure I have them when and if we need them?

Thanks in advance.

Is that true?

Really? I read on this forum a couple of people describing their interviews and talking about submitting bank statements, etc. That's why I asked.

Thanks

Some do, some don't. It's maybe 5-15%. I am one of them, by the way.

It depends on how long the marriage has been valid, and if you and your spouse have received dependent visas before. If the marriage is a few years old, you have kids and live at the same address, you'll be fine and things won't get questioned.

If USCIS questions the marriage, they'll tell you what they want to see.

marriage certificate

I was the derivative applicant on my husband's application. Our case was slightly unusual in that he was approved outright, no interview, but because of fingerprint issues, my case was transferred to a local center for interview (Baltimore). So I was the only one interviewed.

The only thing the IIO asked for as proof of marriage was our marriage certificate. Also, when he went through the forms, he went through the basic demographics and verified my birthdate as well as my husband's birthdate and stuff like that.

I brought many other things like title of our house and cars (which have both our names) and bank statements and joint income tax returns, etc. but he didn't ask to see any of those.

Just for added reference: my husband and I have been married almost 9 years (I think a shorter period of time, say, less than a year, tends to trigger more questions), no kids, and I did not change my last name but that didn't seem to make the slightest difference to the IIO.

Good luck!
