I just want to start a new thread on this. thankful has already shared the interview experience, thanks!. Does anyone else have been interviewed? My case was just transferred to the local office and it seems that I will have to go for an interview. Just want to know what they ask for in the interview, I'm sure they will ask everyone different questions.

Thanks, Gino

Gino,

Before local offices used to process the asylee applications..and someoen can correct me if I am wrong, but at that time, the FP's, RFE, RFI' etc was sent from the local INS office...I am thinking that for asylees they are going to implement this again because of limited resources...

Maybe from now on every case is sent to local office to process..So you shouldn't worry. As long as you are not a criminal and not seriously ill, you dont have anything to worry about.

Just chill to see what happens now. If you get an interview request, then start thinking about then only..not now when You dont know what will happen..they may even send you an approval letter.

wantmygcnow, thanks a lot. I think I worry too much, I definitely need to just chill, as you metioned. I have been following a few cases (LIN numbers) so far they have approved one, and transferred two (including my mine) to the local offices. Let's hope it won't be too long or painful.

As long as you have not done anything horrible in your past or lied on your asylum case, you will be fine.

The biggest problem would be for them to process your file.

The fact is your asylum was approved...you already gave your interview so I am thinking they have no business in asking you all the questions again but you never know with INS...I am sure that its just to make sure that you havent gone back to your home country..! If you travel a lot like I do..You will notice that there is maybe 1-3% of Immigration officers who love to give you trouble...

I had experiences where an officer said "Welcome home" after processing my I-94..once asked me "you sure you haven't gone to your home country?"...to "Welcome Hon"(in pittsburgh)...to "Why were you in australia..Did anyone else from other countries join you"....I think your case was done by an officer who just wanted to increase your misery...

Keep us posted...I know its a lot to be worried about because your life depends on it but I would suggest you just calm down and just wait till what happens.

Can you also tell your country of citizenship? If you are not comfortable Personal message me..Maybe they are profiling certain countries??

Thanks! I have travled a lot, as well. That could be the reason! I was treated well most of the time, except once in New York, where the immigration officer was very rude. He was saying why do I want to stay in the US, it's not my country and I should go back to where I belong, that all asylum cases are fake, and many other rude and unrelated questions. He was harassing everyone, it was the worst experience that I have ever had in any countries that I have been in--and some of those countries are well known for human rights violation!

I'm just going to enjoy the waiting period and whatever comes after that!

Hi, gino,
I've never travelled outside this country. But I'm curious how they knew in the first place that you have traveled a lot? I know they asked for your old RTDs in RFE. Did they know you traveled abroad so they asked you for old RTDs? Or they ask all applicants for old RTDs and if you have them then they know you have traveled? Thanks.

They have a record of every entry of every asylee in the system. So they know we traveled. They know where we traveled since they ask us at the port of entry and check visas and staff. I don't understand one thing: Why would they call some of us to the interview and ask if we traveled back home since they know we didn't?

Well its possible if they have a suspicion that GINO travelled back to his home country..You never know...! they may want to do their research and talkto him face to face ...

Well wouldn't he had a some kind of stamps in passport indicating his entry to his home country? I mean he can't just cross the border. My point is if USCIS has every copy and if neccesary original documents on hand why would they ask those stupid questions. Plus let's imagine situation that asylee went to his country and managed to hide it. What do u think he will answer to the question: Have u ever go to your country? I think the whole think is just waist of time.

Well if they have proof and they have you answer NO i never went..and then they show you the proof..you just have been caught my friend!!! thats what usis may be trying to do.

Well i know people who got their GC recently (it's a family of four). they had interview and of course got asked about ever visiting their country. The funny part is they never even applied for RTD and of course never traveled. Don't u think it's just a standard question they have to ask everybody?

I think ayyubov's observation is correct. They do not ask this question based on their suspicion. Rather they randomly choose people to interview and on a belief that people would not lie under oath (which is perjury), they ask this question.
Furthermore I don't think that they cling to arrival/departure records of asylees too long. I believe that these records are expunged after sometime (maybe 2 years). The reason I say that is that when I traveled to canada after two years again, the officer asked me if I had traveled outside the US before. Obviously he did not know whether I had traveled in the past or not.

I don't know if any of u guys faced it but when I allpied for US student VISA few years ago I had to fill out application. There were some funny questions in it, like
Have u ever been a prostitute and intend to practise it in US?
Are u a member of any terrorist organization, if yes please note which one.

I was surprised by those questions.
The same thing happens now. They ask because protocol requires so. I think if they would have a proof that asylee traveled back to his country they would inform him immediatly instead of waiting for 7-8 years and tell him at the moment of adjustment that he is fake. Actually this whole system is so stupid that they can easily do it also :).
