You are right, there is no fraud being perpetrated if the below scenario is played out exactly as you have stated. I think what caused the commotion was the OP's willingness to venture down this road just to get a GC.

But if the marriage and divorce is fully disclosed, I fail to see what fraud is being perpetrated, any more than being engaged to someone but not legally married simply to preserve eligibility under an FB2 category.
