My wife is going to use AP for the first time.
She has 2 original copies of AP. For safety can she just take one original AP + couple of photocopy , while keeping second original AP in safe place.
What else she needs to bring with her beside passport in order to enter US border ?

Please help as you can.

Thanks

--- When she departs US she will not be asked any questions she has to surrender her I-94 with Airline counter
--- When she takes flight back to US she has to show AP to Airlines (she should also keep copy, they may ask for copy)
---- When she reaches US POE she has to show her passport and AP, the inspector will take her to secondary inspection after verifying every info in BCIS computer Inspector will stamp the AP
--- She should keep both the original AP copies that she got from BCIS with her (Not at home both should be with her)

My AOS has been pending since May 2002. Recently we had to travel to India and we entered U.S. on A.P. We had carried all the possible papers we could think of pay stubs, bank statements etc. My son who is 3 years old is a U.S Citizen.
We landed at IAD(DULLES Airport) and we entered the U.S Citizens/Permanent Residents line. The immigration officer was a lady. She stamped my son's passport and asked us how we were entering the country on expired visas(our h1-b visas had expired last year). Then we presented the AP documents. She understood the whole situation. She told us that we had to go for secondary inspection because of the AP. She also said that personally she did not quite agree with the secondary inspection procedures. We were really impressed with her courteousnes. She really made us feel at home.

She put our passports and AP documents in a 'Blue Folder' and asked us to accompany her to secondary inspection. The inspection itself was a mere formality. The only thing the officer asked us was under what category I had filed my AOS and I replied that it was 'Employment Based -2' category. They stamped our passports and our AP documents and we were out of that place in no time. The whole process took us less than 30 mins. But a chunk of it was waiting in the line. We did not have to show any other document except our Passports and AP documents.

pinks,

were you ever out-of-status in the US previously?
Is an expired H-1 visa with a pending AOS considered an out-of-status?

As long as u are in AOS, u r in status - even if ur visa has expired.

Hi Pinks ,
Can you tell us if you have to take a transit VISA for your stop over in Europe. I am also planning to travel to india in October by British airways. I just dont know if I need a transit VISA since my US VISA has already expired or they will accept the AP at the LONDON airport .

Any reply is appreciated.
Thanks.
