My Oath Ceremony is on the 19th of this month(Jan 19th 2011)

I heard cases where you can get your new US Passport with your new name that same day, how would i do this?

First you have to be able to get to a Pasport Agency Office (not just a post office) early enough in the day. Then you have to prove to the Passport Agency that you have an emergent need, with documentary proof. If they consent, they charge extra. Inquire at a Passport Agency for their specific requirements.

It depends on the area, at some Oath ceremonies you can apply right there after, or go to the local Post Office, but you would still have to wait for it to come back in the mail, the only way to get it same day maybe at a passport office. Where was your interview office, what city are you in.

This is correct but in practice getting a passport issued on the same day as the oath does not appear to be realistically possible. Most oath ceremonies take several hours, and then one needs some time to get from the oath ceremony to the passport agency (assuming the city where the oath ceremony takes place even has a passport agency). An appointment at a passport agency needs to be scheduled in advance and at the appointment one needs to show proof that one needs to travel abroad within 2 weeks of the appointment. Even then, some passport agencies do not always issue same day passports: e.g. in Chicago the passport agency issues passports in 0-3 business days, depending on how soon you need to travel. Plus, you do need to get to the passport agency early enough (presumably before their lunch break) to give them enough time to print the passport on the same day. All in all, getting a passport on the same day as the oath does not appear realistic.

well from looking at your sig im going through the same office as you. i sent my n-400 to same place as you and also went to San Bernardo for my other stuff

Ok, I thought you might be at the same office, there is a guy on another forum at the same office as us and his interview was 11/22/10 and he is also waiting for his oath letter. They told me you usually get the letter about 2 weeks before the oath and that SB office has no control on that as it scheduled by LA. I don't think you have a problem it just takes this much time at our office.
