Hi, I have a 2 year contract with a US firm. The recruiter that hired me said he is willing to write me the TN letter for 2 years. Is this advisable? I am only used to getting one year and then going for extensions.
Nelson or any of the TN gurus, can you please advice? I understand TNs can now be obtained for upto 3 years. Is this a standard practice now, any risks in asking for TN to be renewed longer than 1 year?
The maximum period of admission into the US on TN status is three years now. The rule was officially changed from one year to three years last October. It is perfectly fine for your employer to write you a TN letter for 2 years. Many of us are on three year TN now.
I was on a 2 yr TN before I changed to H1-B. In principle, this can be extended
indefinitely. Although I was told that after 5 yrs, it would be good to take a year break and start the process again.
