How long does it take to receive the actual approval letter from INS

Usually it should not take more than a week for your lawyer to
receive it. I had mine, mailed by INS on 21-JUL-2000 and my lawyer got with in 6 days. Then the lawyer sent to me. I got the courtesy copy from INS with in 8 days of mailing the original approval notices.

I am in the same boat. The message changed to "approved" on 7/26. I have not received anything to date. I left a message to my attorney yesterday and have not heard from him as yet. I am wondering whether the INS always sends a courtesy copy of the applicant or not.

Tell me one thing ....
If INS says that the approval was mailed out on a particular day, why should it take 6 or 8 days to receive it ? Do they send it by some special mail? Even normal mail should take only 3 days (max) to get from Vermont to my place or my lawyer\'s place.
I am confused.
And by the way, I think once you have the letter you can go for stamping as soon as you like .....

There is no appointment date set for getting the stamp in the
passport. Once you receive the original approval notice from the
attorney, you may go to the INS local office in the
working hours. While going you have to take two color photos (Not the regular pose,but the face slightly turned towards left hand side and exposing the right ear) for each applicant , the original approval notice,passport, I-94 cards,all EAD cards if any and Advance Parole Visa if any . You need to surrender I-94 ,EAD cards and AP visa
to them. They will do a fingerprint of the right indexed finger in I-89 card for your actual green card and after
they will stamp in the passport.
In my approval notice , there is no appointment set for the

What is stamped in the passport? My son\'s passport will expire mid next year. I may (if lucky) get the approval etc. done by the end of this year. After the passport expires, do I have to contact INS again for the stamp?

you have to get your passport stamped with visa to reenter usa . if your son passport is going to expire ,u have to get new passport for him and after approval from ins if u wish to visit india u have to get his passport stamped with visa . he can do it at mexico and canada too . if gets rejection in inida he can not come back but from these two locations even if gets rejection he can come back to usa.
