How long does it take recently to get EAD approved?

I sent my I-765 EAD application to NSC early September. The RD is 9/12/05. Now two months passed, I have not heard anything so far. I wonder how long it usually takes to receive an EAD approval. Anyone can give me some information on this? Thanks.

Process duration of EAD

It can take as long as 90 days for processing EAD, same with EAD extension.

Good luck

Mine is pending longer than 90 days (VSC RD August 12), maybe because my case it at local office, so I will go for interim EAD tomorrow...

Can you get the interim EAD on the same day? Could you please keep us posted? Thanks!

interim EAD refused

Was today at local office asking for interim EAD (case pending approx 100 days which is more than 90 days). Officer refused because they issue interim EADs only is the case is PENDING, and turned out that mine is APPROVED - but for getting card I must come next week, Nov 22! And no way to get it earlier. Stupid situation....I planned to accept a job tomorrow and now I cannot and I loose my air ticket because of that....
So in principle you can get interim EAD same day... but not always...maybe depends on the local office.

Hi, Compass,

Thanks for keeping us updated.

If your EAD has been approved (based on the local officer), you can take the job offer tomorrow even though you did not get the card yet. Because there is an effective date on EAD card, which must be some day earlier (the day they approved your EAD). As soon as you receive the card, then you can show it to your HR people.

I have a couple of questions below, could you please answer one by one? Thanks!

1. Do you know when your EAD was approved? Did LUD change? Any email message?

2. Did you mean you have to go back to local office again to get a card? Did Service Center send you a card after your EAD was approved?

No, I cannot take the job until I will have the card in my hands! Now, all I have is a letter from local office to appear concerning this case, it does even no tell EAD case is approved, so I cannot use this instead of the card.

Q1 No, no LUD changes, only once when my case was transferred to local office. After that it was in local office and in this case no LUD change happens, as for my I-485 also.

Q2 Yes I must go back to local office and they will issue me the EAD card same day, probably dated back to the approval date (I do not know this date, maybe Nov 11 which is the date on the invitation). But only on Nov 22! I will come, they take my picture, and after one hour they will give me the card. Bad thing is, I thought I will get the card after 90 days and I got the ticket in advance, and I will loose it now because of this card issue....

That is exactly what my conern is. I rather have a pending petition when I go to local office because I can get the card the same day...The bad case is that they approved my EAD and for some reasons, I don't get my card on time. I am thinking to go to local office after 85 days of my application, and ask for an interim card issued on 90th day or 91st day, do you think it is possible?

I just went to local office. They said that I didn't take fingerprint so that is why my I-765 is till pending. Do we need fingerprint for I-765? I never received a fingerprint notice for I-765. I did receive fingerprint notice for I-485 though. Do we need fingerprint for I-765?

Fastapproval,

Did you e-file your EAD? If so, you need to take finger prints at ASC. I read online that we are supposed to mail application to Chicago address.

Anybody can confirm that?

I contacted my attorney after I came back from local office. He said if you file your I-765 to Service Center, then you don't need to do a separate fingerprint for I-765, you only need it for I-485; but if you file your I-765 at your local office, then you will need a separate fingerprint for I-765. He mailed my I-485/I-765 to NSC, so he said that I don't need to do a fingerprint again for I-765.

If your I-485 is family based, you need to send to Chicago, otherwise, should send to your Service Center.

I think it should be Chicago center. My attorney sent it to the local office and was returned asking to resend to Chicago, though we are not family-based.

BTW, fastapproval, can you share your interview experience?

Thanks.

I didn't have an interview yet. I did fingerprints (Code 2) last week. Are you asking the experience of that?
