I am currently on TN status in USA and have my DV2008 interview in Montreal next week. How long after the interview do i get the visa/green card?
Should i stay in Montreal till Visa/GC arrives Or can i come back to US on TN.
Any issues reentering on TN?

You cannot leave before you have the immigrant visa, because it will be put in your passport. I don't know how long it takes in Canada, I received my passport with the visa four days after the interview. When you re-enter US with the immigrant visa, you activate the green card and you will receive the "real" green card after a couple weeks.

Igmu is right - you will not get your GC unless you cross over to the US with your immigrant visa. So, if you stay in Montreal, you will never get your GC, even if you get your immigrant visa.

Thanks for the feedback..let me clarify..As i need to be back to work asap and being on TN, was wondering on how to do this. Can i go back to US on TN after the interview, and then come back to Canada couple of weeks later and return back on teh Immigrant Visa that i will have collected by then?

Also, how long after interview to get the papers to reenter US with Immigrat visa?
Thanks

They'd need to put the temprorary visa on your passport, so you'd need to wait 2 - 5 days, or more, it depends.

what temporary visa?

I guess what mummy is saying is that if he was successful at the interview, it would take the embassy a few days to return his passport to him with the immigrant visa on it. So, that means he can't get back to the states without a passport.

As there seems to be some confusion about the different terms, I try to make myself more clear:
You have your CP interview in Montreal. They will keep your passport to put the IMMIGRANT VISA in it. Since you cannot cross the border without your passport, you have to wait till you get the visa).
Once you go back to the US, you activate your greencard with your immigrant visa and the sealed envelope at the border/port of entry. From this point on, the immigrant visa in your passport serves as a TEMPORARY I-551 (="temporary greencard"), you are now a lawful permanent resident of the US.
After a couple weeks (sometimes longer), you will receive the plastic GREENCARD by mail.

Thanks.. this helps.
How long after interview do you usually get the passports back?
As i will need to make arrangements at work and also kids school.

that depends on the admin.processing. If it could be lengthy, you can usually ask for your passport back. However, you have TN visa... that's non-immigrant (not dual intent). Probably, won't be let back in anyway.

That makes this stressfull... can I at this time in the game ask for my CP option to be changed to Adjust Status via USCIS.. so we do not have to leave the country and the kids having to miss school?
Any pros or cons of either option.. and also how do i go about this?

Didn't you say that your interview is next week? I would say that this is way too late to change to AOS, however, I don't have any experience in doing that so I could be wrong. I can't imagine that it's so terrible if your kids miss a couple school days... and most likely, that's all it's gonna take (as long as you have everything in order).
