How does Priority Date become current?

I have still not understood what you people mean when you say that an application will be considered when "priority date becomes current". How does priority date become current? Can someone please explain this concept of "current"... please

Has it become a non-indicator??

The latest date among the priority dates of the applicants whose cases have been taken for adjudication is the "current" priority date. SCs process 485 AOS applications based on priority dates because these dates are indicative of the seniority of the application. So when a new application comes they want to match it up with a baseline date and decide whether this new application should go into the wait pool or adjudicate pool..

However the priority date is current for the past several months. Now all it means that any new application to adjust status is put in one big list where everybody waits.

The only consolation is that adjudication is largely (with minor deviations) going in accordance to this priority date...

Hope this helps. There are many INS web pages which give out info on this.
