How Did you apply for DV before?

Hello everybody , I was surfing the internet about the Dv lottery and found this awesome forum :), I'm planning to apply For DV Lottery 2011 It'll be my first time.

So I wanted to ask a few questions,
1-How did you apply for the DV before, did you use the Official Site, or did you use these paid sites ?
2-I also heard to many applications are Disqualified because the pictures are not accurate,can the winners please post a simple or an example for the perfect Picture to be attached to the application?

Most of the winners in this forum used the official dv-lottery website. The official form is available only on the Department State website at http://www.dvlottery.state.gov/ during the registration period, which normally bigins on 1st or 2nd October and ends on December 1st or 2nd.

You have to check if you qualify by means of country of eligibility as well as education/work experience.

And don't forget you hve to have a clean background and some money....if you don't have a job in the USA you need to have at least aproxx. $ 11,000.- in savings and money topay the DV lotery if you win + tickets.

Like $ 1600.- in total for one person + proof of savings or job or sponsor!

I'm Applying alone,not with a family, Do i have to get sponsor,And let's say i got one, do have it get 11,000$ ?
 
So that is a start. If you have a sponsor he will be responsible if you within a certain time frame will file for unemployment or some kind of related soc. sec. benefits. If he signs you don't need the proof of any savings.
You can also have an employer sign and show proof of employment in an approved job field. Otherwise you need the proof of savings and where they came from...no loans are allowed as proof of money since it isn't your money.

"Don't apply for the dv 2011 through paying companies. (eg:USAFIS)
It pretty expensive for something that you could get for free + the service is horrible.
Believe me i know what i'm talking about!!!

Thanks so much for your opinion,I'm making a static and see if there is anyone has actually one using this Paid Companies :)

Go on the previous pages (page 8 to be more precise it was posted around june 24) and read the thread " Big scare with usafis", the title says it all.
And oh good luck with you're dv application.

What are you wanting more opinions about? Haven't your questions already been answered?

ammeck09 gave you a link to some sample photos and bonno recommended that you use the official site, not a paid site. If you are waiting for somebody to come and recommend one of the paid sites, you might be waiting a while. They are at best - expensive but unnecessary and at worst - a scam.

I'll strongly advice you to apply early when the lottery starts in October. It'll give you a better chance of having a low case number.
 
Femo. This is not the case. As long as you apply within the given timescale you have the same chance as anyone else who's information is correct. I for example applied at the last moment and was selected and given a very low number. The process is a lottery and therefore peope as selected randomly

That isn't true...some have stated the entered in the end and had a lower case #...it seems the comp. selects...not a person.
