Hi, I am on H1 visa, do I work as a freelancer? If I work as a freelancer and if I will take the amount on my home country, is it illegal? I am in the US.

No Title

Any compensation received in the US while on H1 has to be thru your employer only. Freelancing in US and getting the remuneration outside US needs the client\'s cooperation. Moreover, you need proof that you are showing that remuneration as income in that country.

Isn\'t that like me suggesting that a company pay me in Andorra since they have no tax?

If I reside in the US, and I am in the US when the work is performed, it seems self evident that the income must be reported IN THE US. Unless a person is authorized to work for any employer in the US, the person must have some type of work authorization.

If you are earning income in the US and not reporting it, the immigration consequences are probably the least of your worries. People sometime go to federal prison for tax fraud.

It probably would be a good idea to get professional advice before going forward with any type of work for pay that is not authorized.
