Hello. I was a student in a small town and had my knapsack stolen with all my important papers, i-20, passport, etc. during fall semester 2001. I was told i needed a new passport before i could get a replacement i-20 from my school. the conculate was very far away, so, i became scared because of 9/11 and did nothing. I was ok, i have girlfriend, work, etc. so i didnt do anything about it and just didnt go back to school. Now, i just want to leave the US and go home. I only have a us drivers licence and my parents mailed me my expired childhood passport so i can take it to embassy to get a replacement.
Because i entered the USA before the sevis system was active, can i just buy a plane ticket if i get a passport and go home? the only thing i want to do is NOT get the 10 year ban, i would like to visit friends from time to time in the USA, and also, my sibling is a new student elsewhere in the USA now. I dont want to do anything that will harm her legal student status if i try to leave.
Does anyone know what i can do to just leave safely? i dont want to get married or try to change status or anything like that......
