Houston Local Interview

Mine and my wife case has been transferred from VSC to the local Houston Office for an interview on 05/05/2003. My lawyer had received the transfer notice for both of us on 5/12/03. The notice is as shown below.

Preliminary processing of the above application or petition has been completed, and it has been transferred to the INS office at:

126 North Point, Houston, TX 77060

The office will notify you when they schedule an interview on the application or petition. Any further enquiries should be made to that office.

Any idea of how long it would take for an interview to be scheduled for transfers from a different service center to the local office??

Thanks.

Welcome to the club

We (my wife and I) filed the I-485 in Nov 2000 at TSC. Our cases were transfered to Houston in Dec 2001. We have not recieved anything from Houston as of yet. I understand that Houston is currently processing cases filed in March 2001. Theoritically speaking, the local ofice adjucates cases in order of the RD.

In other words my friend, just beeeeeee paaaaaaaaaatient!!!!!

Is there any difference in the interview scheduling for cases transferred from TSC to Houston and Cases transferred from a different Service Center to Houston. The reason am asking this is I heard from couple of my friends thats their friends got interviews in 2 - 4 months time after transfer from VSC to Houston Local office.

Thanks

I don't know

I am not sure if there is a difference. There is another thread that was started by "Nice'n Patient" where he says that he got his interview notice eight months after the transfer. My understanding is that it should not make a difference which center transfered the case; all that counts is your RD. The last time I visited the Houston Office, the IIO told me that they try to process in order of the RD, but it doesn't really happen all the time. What I can tell you is that just wait. I know it is hard, but I have been told that, and there was no other option. Keep strong and have faith!!!

What RD are you refering here. Is it the RD of the Service Center ot the RD of TSU. In my case, my RD is 11/19/01 at VSC. Currently VSC's official processing date is 12/03/01. So does the Houston Office go with the VSC RD date or the TSC RD date?? Please clarify

Thanks

The RD is the date your I-485 was received by BCIS. In your case that would be the date the VSC received your application (11/19/01). In my case it would be the date the TSC received my application.

Now the file has been transfered to a local office, this office is going to place your file with other cases filed at that office on that date, i.e. your file will be place in Houston office with other cases filed in Houston on 11/19/01 regardless of where the file is coming from, what category, or what date the original service center is currently processing.

Currently Houston is processing March 2001, then your case (11/19/01) will not be processed now. It will be processed at Houston when they start processing November 2001, which may be in few months from now (I cannot say when) inspite of the fact that VSC is now processing December 2001.

This is why when a file gets transfered you are kid of out of luck, since your file will have to follow the order of the local office not the service center. And this is why your transfer notice tells not to contact the service center with inquiries, but to talk to your local office. The service center does not have access to the data base of the local office.

This is what the Local Office says; however, they also admit that in certain instances, the RD order is not strictly followed, and some cases are adjucated before or after the RD is due.

Good Luck, and keep in touch. I have been in the process very long and have learned a great deal. I have conducted research on the AOS process, may be more extensive than the research I did for my Ph.D. It is very interesting, that I am thinking of going to Law School !!!!!!

May be we'll all be waiting longer

Guys,

I am really enjoying this site with all the people sharing their experiences, suffering and happiness. I too have the feeling that for some of us it will be a very long time before we see the light. And for some others, it will be a snap. I wish all us good luck.

As for Law School, I came to learn that if you really don't know what you need to do and not to do in the immigration arena, you are at a big loss. Even if you have a lawyer, you need to work with him hand in hand to get to a safe harbor. My lawyer and I try to communicate on these bases. It really has been a learing experience that I do NOT regret.

Good luck to you all, me included.

Hi!
My case also got transfered to Houston local office.

Mine was transfered from VSC to Houston on 10/21/2003. I am also waiting for Interview letter.

RD: 02/2002

Did anybody receive Interview letter from Houston office?

neha123,

Have you contacted your Congressman/Senator yet? If not, I believe you shgould start doing this since the Houston office is processing RD after yours if I remember correctly.

Good Luck

I dunno who to contact. But is it safe contacting a congressman?? I heard from couple of my other friends that this might screw up the case.

I called the NSC and they told me that local office considers the date they received the case from the service center as the Notice date. Man.. this sucks. My case was transferred on 5/2003

later.

OK, I will tell you what I know and what I went through. And of course the decision is ultimately yours!

I contacted Congressman John Culberson, the lady there was very very nice and she said that she would be able to give me an answer in 15 days as to "what is the status of my case." I asked her if there will be aproblem, and she said no. If you remember Ashish also contacted this Congressman and was very helpful.

I also know from different threads here and from the Houston office itself that the controlling factor is the RD not the transfer date.

After my ordeal with the Houston office, I also understand that they would rather finish up the marriage based cases since they are easier for them to process.

Go to http://www.house.gov and enter your zip + 4 digits code and you will be directed to the website of the congressman covering your area. Go to his or her website and download the privacy form and fill it in. Write a decent letter explaining that your RD has passed and that the Houston office is processing dates after your RD and you would like the congressman office to enquire on your behalf as to the status of your case.

Good luck and let me know if you need more help.

I guess am in the 8'th district and my representaive is Kevin Brady. ( My zip is 77065-5180). I dunno if he is an anti immigrant or a pro-immigrant. Is there any way to know that?? Also I was just wondering if I can contact John Culberson instead if Kevin Brady.

later.

I do not think that you can contact Culberson. He states on his website that he only serves his district. And actually when I called, the lady specifically asked me for my zip code.

The real pro immigration congress person is Sheela Jackson Lee. But I do not think you can use her either.

Any way, call your congressman office and ask how they can help you to enquire about the status of your Green Card with the USCIS. They will tell you to fill out the privacy form, and send them a letter. Then ask what are they going to do, and whom should you adress the letter to. Be friendly, polit but inquisitive to get as much info as possible. Remember, you are only getting information at this stage.

Good Luck,

I was looking at Kevin Brady's website and I dont find a contact to discuss about immigration. Also can you tell me what exactly to ask. If possible paste a copy of the letter you sent to your congress person.

Thanks.

Thanks.
