Holding PR status, do I know british visa to visit London?

Hello All,

Holding a Permanent Resident status (yet holding Pakistani Passport), do I need a British visa to visit England? I know I need to get visa to visit any Schangen countries. Apparently my brother (in similar status yet travels a lot more than I do) claims that for England it all depends on the Officer there if you do not have a visa.

I appreciate your correspondence.

**Edit***... LOL! I meant to say Do I need instead of Do I know in the title :)

Yes...you need a visa....The good thing is that the application is very straightforward....and one more thing....you will LOVE the UK...:)
 
Does anyone know how long it takes to get the British or Schangen visa these days? I was thinking of taking a quick summer break with the family but if it is going to take more than 2 weeks just to get the visa then I don't think it is worth it.
