Hello all,
I have been an avid reader of the forum for the past couple of months as I get ready to file my N400 (on my own) and its been a great resource. I have been looking at all my travel over the past 5 years and this is the list of dates that I have been out of the country -

17th February 2005 - 28th feb 2005
5th march 2005 - 27 march 2005 --------- 22 days
12th October 2005 20 th jan 2006 --------------100 days
23 rd Sep 2006 25th October 2006 -------------- 32 days
07 Feb 2007 - May 12 2007 ------------ 94 days
04 Oct 2007 26 nov 2007 --------- 53 days
July 2 - july 7 2008 -- 5days
25 Oct 2008 - 23rd jan 2009 ------ 90 days
13 th oct 2009 - Nov 19 th 2009 ------ 37 days

Total ----- 433 days
Does anyone see any issues with these dates?
Also became a LPR on March 09 2005 and applying under 4yr + 9month rule. Should I include first trip which was prior to LPR date in N400?

Also am currently unemployed and will state so in the N400.Will that be a problem or raise further questions during interview? Should I wait till I get a job before I apply?

All help is appreciated.

Some of the trips are long, but they are not back to back, so they should not matter.

Trips before PR - the form says in the past 5 years. Given that the trip is short, just go ahead and report.

Employment has nothing to do with N400 - however, they might ask you how you supported yourself - primarily to make sure you are not working in a foreign country and not reporting that income.

Thanks SanJose

Thanks SanJose,
Do you know what kind of questions around employment can be expected? Also what kind of documentation can be taken to prove I am supporting myself?

------------------some officers did not ask any question. some asked what you were doing. I know a case in Newark DO the person never worked for 5 years he got dervative GC and he informed that he was taking care of children and no other question was asked.

-------------------if you filed taxes with your wife then take joint tax filing transripts and show if asked. if your spouse is supporting you then inform that your spouse is working and supporting you.

Thanks Ginnu,
Am not married and applying based on 5yr rule....can take transcripts of taxes filed and bank statements maybe to show money?

Read the thread EB1. he was not employed and officer did not ask any documents. what is your DO? wait for others who may have similar exp or advice.

You don't have to worry about the emplyment.
I was between jobs when I applied. During interview IO asked me to update the Application with new employment information.
It wouldn't have been a problem even if there was nothing to update.

Lo DO

Am in the Los Angeles DO. Is EB1 a thread name or alias on this forum?

Thanks SEA400. Thats a relief knowing that someone in same situation has not had a problem.

I don't think that's gonna be a problem. I was interviewed at the Los Angeles DO. I was asked about work and I said I am unemployed. It didn't pose a problen at all.

I brought the following with me:

1. Copy of my submitted application
2. Drivers License
3. Passports (old and new)
4. Tax returns from the past three years
5. All other supporting documentation I included with my application

I was only asked for my drivers license and passports. After the oral and written tests, the officer went through my application real quick, asked about my employment (I said I was unemployed and that I am currently on unemployment), skimmed through my travel dates, signed the petition for name change (since I requested it with my application) and that's it. Easy as pie! :p

I don't think it has any bearing with your citizenship application. So if I were you, I wouldn't worry at all! ;) It is very important that you stay cool and relaxed during the interview so that you'll have a clear mind and you'll be able to answer the questions correctly.

No issue at all. None are 6+ months, and none are back-to-back trips.

You're only supposed to list trips since becoming a permanent resident. So don't include that old pre-GC trip.

Thanks jackolantern. Will exclude first trip.
Finished filling the app. Am declaring my
one ticket with an explanation of fine paid in separate page.
Do people staple all pages and photos together? Also will normal mail with delivery confirmation work?
Am also requesting name change.hopefully won't delay my app.
