Hi there everyone,

my husband is immigrating to US. We are living in canada as he is a canadian citizen, I am the US citizen. We already sent in our I-130. We heard back from the consulate in montreal and we sent them our DS-230 application with our checklist. then a month later they sent me an appointment date with an abundance of stuff to do..for our appointment date do we get our AOS al togeter and just bring them the documents we filled out? Im not exactly sure what we need for the AOS, can someone explain to me what exactly has to be done.

thanks so much!!

danielle

You are NOT doing AOS - you are doing consular processing.

Follow the instructions that they have sent you, and bring the required documents. At the interview your husband will get his immigrant visa and he can move to the US.

hi there

we are doing consular processing, but they mention the AOS and i think it sounds like we have to print the documents out, but im not sure which ones. why dont i have to do anything with the affadavid of support?

but my hubby has to get the medical exam before we go for the interview right?

do they want original documents of passport, marriage certificate, or copies and bring originals?

why wouldnt i have to do AOS though? im sponsoring my husband from canada to go to the US.

oh gee i hope this is going right. MOntreal sent him a case number and we have an appointment in october.

i have my sheets at home the packet-3 or 4 pages...but i know they mention the AOS, now im getting nervous are they not suppose to?

hi there,

hes in canada, hes from vancouver bc. I am from the US, New York. But were living here in canada.

so i asked the consulate in montreal about the affadavid of support, and they replied with : you need it completed to submit for your appointment day.

should i ask them anything? we are processing this outside the US so im confused totally.

Correct.

The consulate should have given you a list of documents you need to bring with you. What are you confused about?

well bc you said outside the US immigration spousal processing they dont ask for AOS but in my packet, they bring up AOS and how i have to submit my tax information for the past yr, and my employment info.etc so im confused!

You should not use that term, otherwise you'll confuse us. :) When people mention AOS, they're usually referring to Adjustment of Status, which is an I-485 petition and not relevant to consular processing.

You're referring to the affadavit of support, which is required for all immigrant visas. Yes, you need to fill it out, and provide the information they ask for.

I just became a US citizen. I have a canadian PR and i've been moving between Canada and US for the last 3 years. My wife is also a canadian PR and lives in Montreal with my 2 kids.
I'm trying to petition for her to come to US.
Can I apply for her while i'm here in Canada or do i have to be in US?
If i apply from Canada, i have to have a job here?
Please help with these questions.

Thank you

Thanks much for your reply.
If i applied from Canada. Is there limited time to be in Canada or can i stay for unlimited time, say until her case is approved.
Thanks

You need to have a job and income in the USA. What job is going to pay you to stay in Canada indefinitely?
