Help! Travelling Abroad...do I need I--797 receipt?

Hello,
I have my adjustment of status application pending and I am planning on travelling abroad in a couple of weeks. On my return and at the Port of Entry, do I need to present the I-797 receipt notice along with my passport to the officer? Or do I not present the I-797 automatically and present it only if asked for it? (I do have a valid H1 and my wife has a valid H4) The reason I am asking this is that I do not want me not presenting the I-797 to the officer to in any way affect the adjustment of status application. Would appreciate it for any advice.

Thanks.

If you are planning to use H1 do not attract unnecessary additional questions by showing other documents. I guess you are referring to the 485 receipt which need not be shown at the POE. See FAQ on Advance Parole of INS\'s web site
