Help Please: Eligibility to work during the 1 year extension of temporary green card?

Just filed the I-751 to remove the conditions on green card. I was asked to re-verify I-9. I gave HR the green card which will expire within 2 months and also the 1-year extention letter from USCIS. But the HR told me that it's not good enough, they need me to go to USCIS to get I-551 stamp.

Will I be able to get I -551 Stamp? What can I do?

Tell your HR personnel to carefully read that extension letter. It clearly indicates that you are authorised for employment. Tell them it is very much possible that USCIS will not entertain your request for an I-551 stamp.

Are they (your HR) aware of the fact that they cannot discriminate amongst the type of documents supplied to prove employment authorisation?

If they still give you a problem, tell your HR rep to review page 9 of the I-9 employer handbook. The handbook can be found at http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/m-274.pdf

You can also use a driver license and an unrestricted SS card (if you have one) instead.

Do you have a Social Security card without the employment restriction wording on it? If yes, show that with your driver's license or state ID. That would satisfy List B + List C which means you won't need to show your green card.

The other issue is that they're not supposed to reverify an expired green card.
