Help needed on n-400; Marital History
My GC date is 5/25/2005 and I am trying to fill in N-400 form, I have question on the Marital History section. Me and my wife is in the process of divorce, she left US and has been staying in my home country since 2002, we started the divorce process and it is not finalized yet (she was not part of my Green Card process because she was not here in US during that time), I do not know her current address so I do not know what to type as her address, can anybody guide me to how to fill in this section so it does not somehow cerate problem in my citizenship process?
Thanks for your help.

The obvious question is why the divorce process has dragged on for 8 years... And who benefits from the process - i.e. if you get to file 'married' for 8 years (taxes) then that could be a tax issue as well.

How is it that your wife was NOT part of the GC process? How did you obtain the GC if it wasn't married based? If your divorce process has been dragging on for that long, you can be rest assured USCIS would want to hear all about it. How were your filing taxes? Joint or separate filing? I think you need to really search within your heart and ponder every action you are about to take. USCIS would be interested in knowing about your marriage because lately, I have been reading cases where people are asked for divorce petitions as opposed to decrees. The question is if USCIS ask about your marital status, what are you going to tell them? Should they ask you to bring your spouse, are you able to do bring her?

How have you field your taxes since 2003? (Single? married? Married filing separately?)

Thanks for the replies, I was filing as married, she was not here in US last 8 years and she never worked here, what option should I have checked? Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the reply, divorce process has just started a few months back, we were separated for long time.

Thanks for the reply Bobsmyth, do you expect problem if I do not type any address, if I type her old home address in her home country would that be a better option?

Do you have reason to believe she is still at that address? If not, don't put that address.

Married filing Jointly or Married filing separately? If it is the first, a consultation with a CPA may be beneficial - and they'll let you know if you need to re-file your previous years or roll the dice with the IRS (i.e. do nothing and hope for the best).
The IO is going to see your marital status so if you can, do find out where your wife currently lives (If you recently started divorce proceedings, whoever's handing these proceedings knows of her whereabouts - or at least where she can be reached - parent's address, family address etc).
I would try to avoid 'unknown' as her address - even if it means delaying the N400 by a few weeks to get the correct address.

(and no fake/old addresses)
