Hi,

First of all I want to thank this forum for the valuable information posted here.
I applied for asylum on April 2nd 2010 & was granted Asylum dated May 20th 2010. Really happy about my speedy case :)

I want to get a job ASAP, since I am almost penniless r8 now. I wanted to know, if the 2 documents I have right now can be acceptable for employment verification.
  • School ID
  • I-94 with "Asylum Status Granted Indefinitely" stamp

A/c to USCIS Handbook for Employers (M-274) for Employment Eligibility verification on USCIS website, Acceptable List B document is School ID Card with Photograph. I have School ID from my university where I was doing internship before. Do you think that is an acceptable List B document because I do not have a state ID or Driving License currently.
A/c to this same handbook, valid I-94 with asylee approval stamp stating "asylum granted indefinitely" can be presented as a temporary employment authorization document.
Do you guys think I am correct in my understanding & currently have the documents for employment verification ?

I am going to apply for state ID & new SS card ASAP too tomorrow. But they will take a few weeks. My EAD will also take more then a month because, according to officer who handed out my asylum grant documents @ the Asylum Office, I have to give Fingerprints again & then I will be mailed the EAD. She said this will take around 4-6 weeks.

Do some homework here.

There's a thread that has a memo that instructs people that Asylees don't need Work Authorization Card or anything. That should suffice.

You have to get unrestricted SS card and a driver license or a state ID.
SS ID takes around 2 weeks and almost one extra week to update the E-verify system.

Employers who use E-verify can't hire you if your record is not updated in SS office even if you have I-94 and driver license.
