Hi.I was granted a political asylum a couple of months ago.All of us experiencing bad times(me either)- so i decided to go to the army.I have passed through ASVAB and was waiting for my medical examination but I've got call from recruiter who told me that i cannot join the military until i would get my green card.
Still it seems strange for me because internet resources tell that i am in a permanent status and it shouldn't be any obstacles to go to the army.
What do you think should i go to the different recruiter and Thanks to anyone who will try to clear up this problem.

I am sorry but you are not eligible to join as an asylee. You have to have your green card first. Recently the Defense Department announced a temporary new program to allow people who do not have a green card to join if they have specific language or medical skills the military needs. You may want to check that out.

I also tried to join in the military while I had asylum status. They said I can't join unless I have green card. So wait until greencard. But how come they allowed to take ASVAB test?

Thankful - Thank you for your help, you really helped me.
nepz06- No idea. But I passed it and had a quite high score,so i was rubbing my hands anticipating some enlistment bonuses and at least honorable position. But,right now,i have to adjourn my plans.
